Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacky Alberto.
Jacky, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Currently, I am a hairstylist. I’ve been doing hair for the past few years but being behind the chair does sometimes require long hours. One day I started thinking It was time to branch out.. to start something new. I knew I wanted to start a new business or something on the side. It took me a while to figure it out, I knew I didn’t just want to jump into anything I wouldn’t be passionate about. I always say I would love to own a boutique or do fashion blogs, I just never really had the courage to do it. But at that moment I just realized this had to be it, it’s fun and I know I’m passionate about this. That’s always been important to me. I definitely prayed about this matter for a while and the more I prayed the more this idea kept becoming more realistic and not so impossible anymore. So I just said ok this is it!
Fash Culture was launched in May 2019 it’s been a fun ride so far. Definitely nothing like the hair industry, but it’s different and I love that I am able to be more behind the scenes with this. I’ve recently done a few vendors shows that went well and that definitely boosted my motivation more. Social media has been my best friend in my business ventures for sure and I plan to keep pushing to create a brand that people can become familiar with. We have a lot of work to do but I am happy with the great start my new business has had. It’s a blessing for sure!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
So far it’s been a learning process for sure! A few struggles I’ve had were managing and juggling several things at once, being a single mom with a child who is very active in sports, working full-time, to starting up a new business is definitely a struggle. But it’s not impossible, I’ve definitely had to sacrifice some nights and sleep. The biggest obstacle I can say I’ve faced is myself, procrastination and fear are my biggest enemies haha.
But I’ve learned procrastination due to exhaustion just prolongs the vision and fear will only paralyze the vision. If you don’t push through it you’ll stay stuck and if you let those get in the way you end up killing your dream. Each season of my life has helped me grow in different areas of my personality and character for the better! I’m somewhat of an introvert so With this new business, I’m learning to push myself to create more content, taking more photos, and creating try on videos is definitely out of my comfort zone but it definitely helps my customers get familiar with the brand. But overall I’m loving every lesson.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My company is named Fash Culture, LLC. We are an online faith-based clothing boutique. We target older teens and those fashionista moms who still want to be glammed home without being so exposed. Which there is nothing wrong with that! I am also a full-time hairstylist at a salon in downtown Dallas called Studio 1514. I’ve been in the beauty industry for about 5 1/2 years now my most favorite is color, I am a colorist.
I’m most proud that I decided to take a leap of faith in this clothing boutique venture to offer something I feel I’m starting to see less of. As a young mom, I still want to look fashionable and cute! It’s not always easy when you’re constantly on the go. There’s little time for me to get the chance to check out malls so I’d like to provide the option of having it shipped right to a busy mom’s home.
My goal is to provide modest and sophisticated clothing for young women and moms. So they can feel beautiful and confident in themselves one outfit at a time.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was definitely more quiet and more on the introverted side. I had a lot of friends but I can’t ever say I was the loud one in the bunch. I loved goofing around and laughing. I couldn’t never stay still or just not be up to something so my parents decided to keep me from getting bored that I need to be in sports and later in my teens, I started dancing. The mind and art always caught my attention, I quickly realized I’d rather sit and talk with one person over “conspiracy” topics for hours over sitting in a crowd of people who had nothing to talk about but gossip. I liked getting to truly know people for who they really were. At the age of 17 was when I had my son so that definitely made me mature and grow up fast. Which is probably where the appreciation of my time and people really came from.
