Today we’d like to introduce you to Carly Brasseux.
Carly, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my first job with the North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee and worked with the most amazing team in Dallas. I worked right under our COO, Tara Green, who not only taught me everything she could, she took me under her wing and mentored me. After that, I was hired by Roger Staubach who wanted to start a nonprofit for veterans and military families in Dallas. We had no business name, no logo, no strategy – and our small, but mighty team started from ground zero and built an amazing nonprofit, Allies in Service, for him. Talk about learning a ton in my early career – operations for the Super Bowl, starting a nonprofit for one of Dallas’ icons!
I soon realized how much I loved relationship building and marketing. Every aspect of business really comes down to relationships.
I decided to start my own consulting company and the rest has been a journey with lots of ups, a few downs, learning, growing and fine-tuning my skill set.
I took on my first client, a leadership development expert out of Washington D.C., COL Sutherland, whom was an advisor to me and our team at Allies in Service. I started taking on miscellaneous projects. Allies in Service hired me as a consultant for their website and social media management, Tony Fay PR hired me for project management, and I took on a sales job with Dallas Moms and Collin County Moms. Sales was terrifying, but again, relationships are the building block for success and I knew I wanted to at least try sales.
At the same I was doing all of this, my love for hunting and the outdoors was growing, My husband hunts and I started going out with him more and more and realized every time I was with him, there was such a lack of information for women, but especially those new to the sport. I wanted to write everything down that I was learning. So, what’s a dedicated, Type A and passionate person to do – start a blog of course. I launched my blog and social media channels, Miss Pursuit, in September of 2018 and have grown those rapidly. I’ve been published in magazines, wrote an e-book, How To Hunt Like A Girl, and guest write for some of the best hunting websites in the country.
In a world where women are the fastest-growing segment of the hunting population, I am a major proponent of those women wanting to learn more about the outdoors and hunting. I want to educate women through my experiences learning to hunt; I want to get out with my kids to explore.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No road is smooth, but I’ve learned to always say yes. Everyone will tell you, “Take control of your time. Say no to things aren’t important.” But, how do you know if they’re important? How do you know that you won’t rock it better than the next person? How do you know you won’t meet a new contact? Did I ever think I could manage video projects for Jerry Jones’ Hall of Fame induction ceremony? Did I ever think I could start my own blog, sell over $150,000+ in digital ads, be published in magazines or write an e-book? Heck no! But every project that came into my lap – I said YES to!
What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I do social media management, strategy and implementation, website development, SEO, copywriting and project management. I think what sets me apart is that if I don’t know something, I’ll learn it. Oh, and being a perfectionist and Type A makes me a force you can’t stop – like a dog with a bone!
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Everyone I’ve worked with has mentored me! All my family has advocated and encouraged me. From Tara Green and Bill Lively at Super Bowl to my mom, dad and husband to COL Sutherland, Tony Fay, Amanda Larder… to Krystal Hurst at Dallas Moms and Collin County Moms.
