Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Peng.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Alexandra. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After working in the European optical industry for over a dozen years, I finally realized there weren’t any glasses that could fit Asian features properly. Most Asians, myself included, used to settle for glasses that were constantly sliding down or sunglasses that would sit on our cheeks leaving unsightly marks.
The moment I knew I must dive into this unknown territory was when I heard a beautiful Asian girlfriend tell me she needed plastic surgery because she could never find any frames or sunglasses that fit her. I was in shock, to say the least. It was the moment of realization that wearing a pair of eyewear that didn’t fit could implicate so much more than most people realized.
I started to study Asian faces tirelessly. When I would study an Asian face, I would see the shapes or different colors that would complement their faces and warmer skin tones.
There were many little details that I’ve never noticed in my 15 years of optical life working exclusively for European features. After 3 sets of prototypes and countless versions of technical drawings, I came out with 5 styles of frames and a few sunglasses. I went into 10 different optical places within a 5 mile radius of my home in Mountain View, CA. Out of those 10 practices, 9 welcomed me with open arms, wanted to carry them in their stores/practices, and wanted to know where I have been all this time. The positive feedback I received encouraged me to design more styles and continue to alleviate the frustration of practices fitting their Asian customers.
It was the fall of 2009. The rest is history.
Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest challenge has been helping people realize they need something that they didn’t know they needed. Most of the Asians I spoke to they simply thought their own features were to be blamed. It would never occur to them that they were wearing something that wasn’t designed for them.
Luckily, once they try TC CHARTON products they realize the difference a good fit makes. Some have even described the positive experience as life-changing! Many have become very loyal customers that come back year after year and own multiple pairs of our frames and sunglasses.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with TC CHARTON Asian Fit Eyewear – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
TC CHARTON was the pioneer in Asian Fit eyewear. We are still the only collection that solely focuses on making products that fit beautifully on Asians. We continue to remain the leader in Asian Fit eyewear, as there is no other company with similar offerings that even come close to our selection and dedication.
