Meet Cathy Castillo of Beautiholics in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cathy Castillo.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Cathy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
About two years ago, I was a typical 8-5 businesswoman. I made great money and had job security which was important because I was a single mother. But as a manager, I was always stressed. I have a friend in Fort Worth who is a nail tech and every time I saw her, all we talked about was the art and how to’s of nails. She always asked me why I didn’t learn. I was so unhappy at my job I decided to start as an in-home nail tech. I learned how to do my own nails first to get the type of designs I wanted and then I began doing friends for extra money and made it a side gig to my 8-5 to slowly build my business from the ground up. Last year in 2018, I went a step further and got certified to do Microblading for eyebrows. My circle of supporters pushed me to finally quit my full-time job in January 2019 and pursue my dream as a full-time artist because they believed I had what it took! I realized it was my happy place. I always had a passion for art and creativity. I put in the sweat and tears to level up in what I do and I wouldn’t change it for the world. Here I am almost two years later and I have a great clientele, my name is getting out there, and I’m still just getting started!! I have so much planned for 2020!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest struggles for me was juggling my time from my two jobs and my time for my kids, and also going from a salary pay to getting paid day to day. Sometimes, I wanted to give up, sometimes I cried when no one was looking, but my circle never let me give up. They always reassured me I was going to make it.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
When I first started out, my business name was “Nailaholics” because nails was all I did. But, I quickly realized I wanted to dabble a bit in a lot of things beauty related. So, I changed my business to “Beautiholics” and got a logo made by one of my favorite talented clients! Right now, I do Acrylic nails and semi-permanent makeup on brows. I take pride in DETAIL. I don’t cut corners and I take my time. All my clients LOVE that about all my work and my nail clients love that their sets last about 4+ weeks.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I always had a thing for art, creativity, music, and fashion. I loved art classes in school and drawing. I loved doing hair and makeup and plucking people’s brows to perfection. Creativity has just always been my thing.
