Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynda Caldwell.
Lynda, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
What really inspired me to start Lashwell was working at a dead-end job. I was tired of working for someone else, making someone else money. Having to be told when I have to be at work and when I can take off work. Being micromanaged, not being able to advance with a company. Having that feeling of being stuck in one place and just going through the motions. I wanted something better for myself and my family. I wanted to be able to put everything I could into building a brand I created and be proud of.
The first thing I did was apply to esthetician school (Tint School of Makeup and Cosmetology) where my main focus was lash extensions. I already had a goal, knew exactly what I wanted to do and I went for it. After I finished my education, I applied at Amazing Lash where I was doing nothing but lash extensions and they taught me everything that I know. Amazing Lash was really a blessing, I would not be where I am today without their dedicated trainers and training program. They kept me on my toes with technique and with timing. After being with them for a while and perfecting my technique I went ahead and stepped out on faith and quit Amazing Lash and started to build on my own business and work for myself. Thanks to God, I am still in the business and successful! It has definitely been the best thing I could have ever done!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being an entrepreneur definitely has its ups and downs. It’s not as easy as everybody may think it is. Sometimes things can be smooth and other times things can get rough. I came from a 9-5 job where I was so used to having a steady paycheck every week or every two weeks and not having that to rely on was a major adjustment for me. In this field, you do depend on other people to pay your bills. What I mean by that is I can have a full schedule of clients and calculate my money up and say, “this is what I have for the week” and by the end of that week, I could have some clients that want to reschedule or just don’t even show up and then I am out of that money. Or it could be certain weeks where you don’t have any clients booked at all but those bills still have to be paid. It can be very challenging in that aspect.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Lashwell story. Tell us more about the business.
Lashwell is an eyelash extensions business. I specialize in classic, hybrid Russian volume and mega volume Russian volume lash extensions. I provide a service and have clients walking out of my business feeling like a brand new person. What sets me apart from others is my lashing technique and I work hard to provide every client with the ultimate lash experience. I am proud that I am able to enhance a women’s beauty and give women the lashes they have never had. I also provide other lash technicians and inspiring lash technicians with lash classes and I am definitely proud to be able to pour into others and teach others how to get or keep their business going.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I honestly don’t believe in luck, I believe in GOD. I talk and pray to God about my goals and my business on a daily bases and He answers me every time! I believe that what’s meant for you is what you will have and if you put your mind to it, you can do anything!
