Today we’d like to introduce you to Mitch Mitchell.
Mitch, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I come from a musical family. I remember writing poems in the 2nd grade and learning to play the violin in the 4th-grade. I left the Orchestra to decide to join the Band in the 5th-grade to play the Alto Saxophone. I left the Band 8th-grade year because the band director moved out of Texas. I wasn’t happy. I didn’t enjoy the music anymore and the classical music was boring. Today I look back and realize the classical Sebastian Bach and Wolfgang Mozart music was important because it’s the music foundation. I try to turn away from music but it kept chasing me. I was in love with poetry and I started writing music. I was going to different recording studios to make music and doing shows everywhere I could. I recorded 5 CDs: 1 Album, 4 mixtapes and 3 singles.
I was getting ready to graduate in 2011, and I had to figure something out fast. Some friends were going to the Navy and others were going to college. So I put the music down for a while. I felt like I had to do something too. So I went to ITT – Tech to study computer networking systems. I enjoyed school but I felt empty. I would finish my homework at school to keep my grades up and then I would work on my music. This kept me happy, I still felt empty. One day I was leaving school on my way home, my car immediately stopped working. I had no transportation to school anymore and I was really upset. I quit school and never looked back because my heart was in music. I found a job at a car auction. A neighbor down the street got me on the job. I was working in no time and things were getting better.
I started working on music again and this time I was going all in! I was helping others record their music. I also started doing mobile recording, but you can only get so far with that. I heard about this recording arts school in Framers Branch called Media-Tech. I went for a tour to check things out. I checked out other schools as well to explore my options, but Media-Tech was the best fit. I enrolled full-time and worked 9-5 full-time. It was hard but I made it through. I graduated in 2014 as a certified audio engineer. I had multiple career opportunities as an artist, but I had to choose which path to take. I wanted to be an artist and an engineer, but I realized that in order to master something, I had to focus on one thing. Piano Note 1 Production was born in 2012. By 2015, I opened my commercial recording studio.
Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. As an entrepreneur, I had to work around the clock to be flexible. It’s nothing like a regular job. To pay the bills, I put in the workday in and out to meet deadlines. I appreciated the struggle because that humbles me and kept me remembering where I stared.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Piano Note 1 Productions story. Tell us more about your work.
Piano Note 1 Productions is a business of integrity. I’m an Audio Engineer/Music Producer/DJ. I specialize in recording, mixing, mastering, music producing and DJ services. I’m known for helping others create a unique sound and brand. I’m also known for music consultation to help point others in the right direction. What sets me apart from others is that I genuinely care about the craft. I treat each and every customer with respect and ensure their music is handled correctly.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The music industry is changing daily. Music sounds a lot different now than it did 20 years ago. A lot of people are creating independent labels and merging with bigger labels. Artists are teaming up with groups to help them be successful. However, the music still goes to its original roots. Vinyl is popular now more than ever, and more record stores are starting to open up. It’s almost as if the music industry runs in a cycle.
