Today we’d like to introduce you to Christian Johnson.
Christian, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I got my start in the mortgage industry 20 years ago. I worked for a company housed out of a one-bedroom apartment and learned the business by “failing forward.” I was terrible at the job but every day after work I would get in the car, turn off the radio and think about what I did wrong that day, how I could have done things differently, and how I could do better the next day! Each day I wanted to find ways to improve. Now, I have put in over 10,000 hours in the business and I have become one of the Top Producing Loan Officers in Dallas and am in the Top 1% Producing Loan Officers in the Country! I’m humbled every day to have come this far. The beauty of being in the mortgage industry is that we are continually learning and growing. No two days are the same! We are always being challenged with new and interesting home loan scenarios to puzzle together.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’m not sure that anyone who has been in their career for as long as I have (20+ years) can say it’s been a smooth road. We have had to navigate two recessions, including the Great Recession, regulation changes, and administration changes. All of which forced us to be nimble and creative, all the while focusing on the gifts we do have that we can share with our clients. No matter what market you are in, it is important to say positive and focus on your value.
Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about your work?
I am the Branch Manager of the Park Cities Branch of Caliber Home Loans. I spend most of my days fostering relationships with customers who are looking to purchase a home, real estate agents who are incredible referral partners in the home loan process, and maintaining high touch personal service for both clients and partners throughout the home loan process. I am incredibly proud of our affiliation with Caliber Home Loans. We have the strength of a large bank but are given enough slack to run our branch like a small, local boutique that cares. We are able to give personal service that creates relationships for years to come as well as be involved in the local neighborhood through sponsorships, community events. Just like your doctor, financial planner, and attorney, we become your “Go-To-Guy” when it comes to all things mortgage. Our hashtag is #YouGotAGuy! Our customer relationships now span generations and it is always exciting to receive a call from an old friend (client).
I look forward to continuing to watch our little branch in Highland Park grow. We have AMAZING team members and have focused on slow growth in order to keep the level of service excellent. I have watched many companies grow too fast and lose their core values in the name of rapid expansion. That is not the case in our little branch. We have a lot of fun and really enjoy what we are doing because we do not allow our clients to become just a “Loan Number” but rather invite them to be friends and family.
What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
The proudest moment is always the joy a client has when they finally realize the joy of becoming a homeowner! The American Dream.
