Conversations with the Inspiring Kirsten McCormick

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirsten McCormick.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kirsten. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I attended UTA for vocal performance and for several years after graduating I taught voice lessons and was a church choir director. But while I loved and continue to love music, my interest in natural health and wellness grew. In 2013, I started a natural living blog. Through this, I discovered essential oils, fermented foods, nutrition and non-toxic living, which led me to start a business with Young Living Essential Oils in 2014. My passion for helping people get healthy only grew as my business took off and I began teaching classes and workshops in the area to educate people on the dangers of toxins in their homes and how to swap out toxic items for safe, plant-based ones.

In 2017, my business and income allowed my husband to quit his job and we decided to go “on tour”… We converted a 40 ft school bus into a beautiful RV/tiny home, sold everything we owned and traveled all over the US and Canada educating our five kids and teaching classes on healthy living and essential oils wherever we went. This opened up many opportunities (such as starring in an episode of Wife Swap) and teaching me how to run my business online and really take it international.

At the end of 2018, we decided to come back to Arlington to dig back into our roots and reconnect with friends and family. My husband took the opportunity before jumping back into the corporate world to hike the Pacific Crest Trail (a 2,600 backpacking trek from Mexico to Canada). While he pursued this epic hike, I started a journey as a surrogate and am currently carrying a baby for a dear friend. He is back from his hike now and I am pregnant, but also thoroughly enjoying teaching local workshops and classes, digging into my community, teaching people and sharing my love for natural health and intentional living.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road hasn’t been smooth or straight. There were struggles along every step of the journey. Quitting my music career to pursue my own business, my husband quitting his job while I supported us full time so we could pursue our dream of full-time travel, selling everything we owned… the list goes on and on. Nothing was easy, but it was SO worth it. I wouldn’t trade my journey for anyone else in the world!

If you have a dream, it doesn’t matter what anyone else says you can or can’t do. Nobody else could “see” my dream or all the twists and turns and if they could, maybe it wouldn’t have been worth it to them anyway. But it was 100% worth it to me!

What should we know about Cheerfully Imperfect? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am passionate about empowering people, especially women and young moms to take charge of their family’s health. People walk through life assuming that headaches, allergies, brain fog and digestive issues are normal and they are NOT. They are caused by what we put in and on our bodies. I love to teach people how to make informed decisions about what to use in their homes and on their bodies and how to ditch the toxins in their skincare, makeups and cleaners and use plant-based options instead. It’s beautiful to see how their bodies heal themselves when they are no longer being slowly poisoned every day!

I’m proud of my ability to do this in an authentic way, creating a beautiful community of women who don’t just learn from me, but who educate and empower EACH OTHER. Our community is unique because we don’t shame anyone for their choices, we simply educate and encourage everyone to take small steps wherever they are at!

Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
My coaches, Zen Cryar-DeBrucke who taught me how to use my internal guidance system and Sarah Darby, who has given me much needed accountability and encouragement in a season of transition.
