Today we’d like to introduce you to Yvonne Madison.
Yvonne, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Inquisitive Health started out as an idea from a college essay I was assigned back in 2005. I recall being an avid gym rat, Army Veteran, going to college and working full-time. Life was pretty well-orchestrated, but stressful at times. I recall getting that essay assignment and had an option to pick a topic, surprisingly one of them was Performance Enhancing Drugs in Sports. With me being in the gym daily as an aspiring bodybuilder, I was tossed tons of supplements, recommendations and “better” advice from everyone that thought they knew what I needed to achieve my goals.
Well, I took the assignment as an opportunity to do my own personal research to learn about the market of performance-enhancing supplements, dangers, benefits, and alternatives. After getting through the facts, I was shocked to learn that most supplements and fitness products weren’t as regulated and validated as we thought! Even worse, I had already seen supplements do damage to people close to me so I needed to know how we as fitness enthusiasts could do better with our learning and make better choices for ourselves.
Fast forward to the near completion of my essay and several interviews with supplements company reps and fitness professionals, I had gathered tons of information on what people were looking to gain, whether it was better weight loss results, energy, recovery, stress reduction, better sleep. I took each of those goals and found alternative solutions through the most natural approach, then applied it to my training routine and began journaling and blogging. Now I will admit, it took a lot of research and trimming and narrowing down of my “what if’s” to come to solid results and conclusions, but beyond my turning in of that essay, I was now hooked to continuing my research. I began sharing a notebook and plan with friends and so many found it bizarre that I has the results I had naturally. I still have my journal and binders with my research and notes today!
Going back to my childhood, I remembered how my grandparents and parents always had a natural remedy for everything. From the common burn, coughs, fevers, cuts, you name it, I was a child knew how to cure it because of them! I had also grown up overseas most of my childhood so the tables and pantries looked much different with less processed foods and more fresh and organic and natural foods. For myself, I was always passionate about self-care and I continued to grow my knowledge throughout the years as part of my lifestyle.
Fast forward to today, about 14 years later, I’ve transitioned my journals into my blog and I have continued to gather health and wellness facts, opinions and the tried and true to share in a one a stop location, which is my blog. I then took it a step further by creating a business that offers services beyond the blog for people who just don’t know where to start their natural and holistic wellness lifestyle. The services are geared toward the triad of Mind, Body, and Spirit and offered as a comprehensive wellness plan that is continuous and as fluid as our environment and lifestyles.
The name comes from my inquisitive nature. I am a natural researcher and option weighing realist, that dreamed of being a community center of wellness and natural healing through the resources given to us on this planet. My philosophy is that we are our best wellness plan. Through education, application and consistency, we learn our bodies, mind and the spirit of ourselves. We become the highest version of ourselves. Mindwork until it’s a habit.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I would have to say that although the passion and creativity come without effort, running a business based on a concept still very foreign to most has and will probably continue to be a challenge for quite some time. Many still rely on marketing to drive our consumption from what we eat to how we treat a common headache. It’s easier to rely on an ad that tells us to quickly grab a medicine to knock out a headache, or to take a supplement to kick an appetite or to take medicine at the first sign of a symptom. We weren’t naturally trained to listen to our bodies and figure out why the symptom exists in the first place.
The community must learn their individual make up, listen and research our own unique structure, and build a wellness plan around that level of knowledge and practice. Self-care. That’s what it really is. As passionate as I am my business and calling, I face the challenge of reaching those that need these services the most. I am a product of my work and have gained many clients who didn’t know where to start. That’s what Inquisitive Health is here for. So many clients and customers tell me they didn’t know they needed this until they gave it a try. There is no turning back once you know. That’s true empowerment.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Wow! This is where hush and draw in a moment of gratitude. Almost 15 years in, I had a lot of naysayers and many that just didn’t understand. I’ve had my bouts of health concerns and issues in the past and as close friends and family have seen me consistently apply my work and knowledge to my day to day lifestyle, the support has grown in general. I would have to thank my late grandmother, who I’m named after, for teaching me as a very young child how to naturally care for myself. My parents and siblings have also rooted me on especially my mom, who of course treated us as kids in the most natural and homeopathic way possible.
My mentors would my instructors, professors, doctors and fellow practitioners that allowed me to challenge them with my thoughts and ideas. I would also like to thank a very dear friend of mine that elevated my level of fitness, pushed me hard, and increased my knowledge astronomically when it comes to physical training, recovery and allowing me to track and journal him over the years as an Inquisitive Health client. This 1st hand observation and experience helped me develop more sound physical activity programs for clients that are athletes. I also want to thank those who showed up to support my business, my ideas, my need for trial clients during field studies and those who have yet to begin. We are all Inquisitive by nature and want to be well. I thank those that believed in me including those that nominated me!
Most important, I thank the Divine Spirit above for guiding me to my life’s purpose and revealing what I’ve learned to share with the planet. I am humbled and grateful for my life experience. At Inquisitive Health, clients are community friends, family and partners.
