Meet Lizeth Cuyan of Modern Day Mujeres Podcast in Frisco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lizeth Cuyan.

Lizeth, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was in the corporate world for over four years, lost that job and at that point my pregnancy with my youngest son was high priority due to complications. I became a stay at home mom and found my self completely invest on only being a mother which I mean isn’t a bad thing but sometimes moms need a break too!

I had never been the type of person to sit still and so I started creating a Facebook blog called “Blended Beginnings with Liz” in order to build a community of women or mothers who could come together by some of my stories of motherhood, friendship, marriage and co-parenting. It slowly started to grow and gained momentum and I even had the opportunity to host a Galantines Day event. After that, I was interviewed in a podcast to talk about my Blended Family and Co-Parenting. The immense number of people that heard my story and reached out to talk about their own experiences gave me a sense of solidarity. It felt like my stories were bringing more and more women to reach out to me and even say, “Thank you for sharing your story” or “I thought I was the only one who felt that way.” That gave me a sense of accomplishment.

Has it been a smooth road?
Definitely, not a smooth road! Luckily, we have a friend who also has her own podcast and she was an amazing help when we started this. The first time we tried to record we had no idea what we were doing. My Co-Host Melanie has taught herself to edit our audio. For us, we have so much ambition set for ourselves and for what we want to do with this podcast that not everything goes through.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Shortly after, my close friend Melanie Rodriguez just dropped the idea of starting a podcast to speak on her own experiences and use this as a way of healing through talking and sharing our stories. Just like I had felt the first time I was interviewed, I knew that this podcast we were going to create would have an amazing impact for all we have to share with many women. May 28, 2019 is when we launched our first episode and the name of our podcast “Modern Day Mujeres” became to be. We are both Latina women and wanted to make sure that was incorporated with who the podcast hosts are.

At this point, our podcast has taken a turn for even better opportunities such as guest speaking and live podcasts to speak to women of multicultural backgrounds. We don’t only use our platform for just Latina women but all women in different stages of their lives. We have interviewed women and men too. We have combined our podcast to talk about our own personal life, struggles, achievements and it has taken a turn into other women wanting to share their own stories. Some are entrepreneurs, business owners, influencers and bloggers and even some have had stories of losses but most importantly they are women with stories that in one way or another bring us all together to know we aren’t alone. We know 2020 has event bigger and better things in store for us.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, I do believe the DFW area is a great opportunity for us. We have had the opportunity to join and network at several events that are hosted here and that’s were we get the chance to meet more women and men. I think as long as they have the drive to go for it, they can make it happen. We do wish that there was more local businesses willing to partner with other smaller and upcoming platforms, whether it’s in podcasts or even for bloggers but that doesn’t change the fact that we can work for the opportunity to get to that point.
