Today we’d like to introduce you to April Borge.
April, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Inspire Yoga has been a part of my life since 2011. From the moment I walked through the door of their flagship studio in Highland Village, I fell in love with the classes, the instructors, and the experience of a big company with small business values. On the mat, I found a refuge for dealing with the emotions and challenges of being a mom, wife, and foster mom. In 2016, I finally decided to give myself the time and space to take on 200 Hr. Yoga Teacher Training; a decision that would change my life. I was amazed by the wonderful individuals surrounding me who I knew had the potential to positively impact their communities through yoga. I knew I wanted to provide this talented community of instructors a space to start that journey; thus, we began working with Inspire Yoga to expand to a third location. Grapevine, with its small-town charm and big-city amenities, was clearly the perfect locale. We have been so humbled by the warm welcome we received when the doors opened last year in September of 2018. We recently celebrated our One Year Anniversary with the members who have been on this journey with us since day one. It was the perfect way to cap off an amazing first year!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Opening a business is never easy! There were a lot of things my husband and I had to learn in a very short amount of time. Luckily, we like a challenge! And we were very fortunate to have Bethaney and Adam Pilat (founders/owners of Inspire Yoga in Highland Village and Denton) to guide us through the process. Knowing we had people to bounce ideas off of and steer us in the right direction was so valuable in getting the studio up and running. After opening day, we discovered a new set of challenges each and every day from the logistics of the studio, to balancing our family life with a completely new dynamic. However, the talented instructors, graceful community, and wonderful corporate partners such as Hop and Sting Brewery kept us focused, laughing, and grounded at each new obstacle.
Inspire Yoga Grapevine – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Inspire Yoga is a health and wellness company specializing in Yoga Classes and Yoga Teacher Training. There are three locations in North Texas – Highland Village, Denton, and Grapevine. Inspire Yoga delivers unique, but consistently high-quality classes from seasoned instructors, many of whom graduated from Inspire Yoga’s professional teacher training programs, certifying instructors for over nine years. In a short amount of time, the students at Inspire Yoga Grapevine have really grown into a supportive and loving community. At Inspire Yoga Grapevine, community-friendly classes, like Bend and Brew with our neighbors Hop and Sting Brewery and Thirsty Thursday in partnership with Umbra Winery, allow the students to socialize and get to know each other on a deeper level. It’s not just a place to exercise. It’s a place to bring friends and meet new ones.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment so far was participating in Inspire Yoga Grapevine’s inaugural 200 Hr Yoga Teacher Training teach-outs. It’s an amazing testament to Inspire Yoga’s reputation that eight months after opening the Grapevine studio, we had nine students in teacher training. Watching these graduates teach each other, their mentors, and instructors was humbling to say the least. It was a full-circle moment knowing that these new instructors were starting the journey that I had been on just a few years ago. It’s so rewarding to keep sharing my love of this practice with new students and have them do the same.
