Meet Marlene Faulkner of Knife and Faulk in McKinney

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marlene Faulkner.

Marlene, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born in Brooklyn and grew up around family that loved to cook and have get-togethers. I can remember being in the kitchen with my grandmothers playing with ingredients and creating. I had no desire to study culinary arts. I originally went to school for Journalism with a desire to become a News Anchor. My love for cooking and entertaining really started to take form during my college years and having had access to so many great places to eat in New York City and its surrounding areas, I really developed a love for great food and ambiance. I started out creating cookie baskets and other baked goods as well as catering small events for family and friends. Over the years, the passion for creating food experiences for others deepened and lead me to branching out into catering private parties. After moving here to Texas a few years ago, the passion to serve others through a food experience is becoming more than just a business.

Has it been a smooth road?
The truth is, the journey has really just begun for me. Most people may not realize how competitive and risky the foodservice industry is. For me, getting started in this new environment, Texas, brought apprehension but has stretched me further than I have ever been since I started my business back in the Northeast. There are always opportunities and challenges related to finances, staffing, and finding creative ideas to keep customers engaged to name a few. I’ve met some incredible people and interacted with customers who have embraced my style of food presentation in a way that tells me I must keep going.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Knife and Faulk – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I consider Knife and Faulk a boutique for culinary experiences. Catering private parties has been our foundation where customizing menus and its presentation sets the stage. The type of cuisine is not limited to just one style simply because I am always testing recipes and ingredients. Although catering is at the heart, this is just the beginning of the services Knife and Faulk will offer. I am most proud of the style, sophistication, and uniqueness the company brand represents.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Dallas has been a great place for my family and I to live and it seems to be a hub for business owners. There isn’t much I don’t like about living here, except for the traffic, lol. I still have so much to learn about this city.
