Life and Work with Sydnie Herbert

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydnie Herbert.

Sydnie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In 2017, I got my dream job of being a Flight Attendant. Halfway through flight attendant training, I met Mr. Tall, Dark and Handsome himself, we fell in love and the rest was history. After training, we were based in Detroit, Michigan together and I struggled with the adjustment of my new lifestyle. I moved far away from my family and friends in Seattle, WA and after a long, cold year in Michigan, we moved to Texas!

Simply Me Sydnie B, started as just an Instagram account I thought I could share cute outfits on, and has turned into the main source of my blogging business. I took my love for travel and fashion and ran with it. I used it as a creative outlet and the feedback has been amazing! Now it has become part of my brand and it has helped me meet so many incredible people.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has been fairly difficult, to be honest. I struggled with trying to stay true to myself through the process and it has affected my business and my relationships. I struggled with doubting myself and constantly felt like no one would care what I have to say or how I would stand out. I started to measure my worth by what I thought it meant on the internet. I based that worth off of what I thought these girls among the influencer saturation had that I didn’t. It started to affect my happiness in my everyday life, and especially my relationship. I became very depressed and dealt with a lot of anxiety.

I had to decide that I couldn’t let comparison be the thief of my joy any longer. I decided that even if no one read my blog, that wasn’t what made me “worthy” enough to write it or not. I did it because I love writing about the places I travel to and the clothes I wear, and that is the honest truth about who I am. It seems like sometimes it is so difficult to be your true authentic self, but a lot of the time it is because the world gets too loud.

My advice would be to just do it. That was part of my New Years’ resolution. Just jump in, the worst someone can say is no. Just post the picture, just take the trip, just apply to the job, just take the leap! It is so scary but that is the only way I have learned anything from this and really the only way I have made half the friends I have! I showed up to networking events all by myself when everyone else had brought a friend, and I just told myself I was going to “just do it”. Continue to remind yourself of things that make you happy, because that is what matters in life.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I am a travel and fashion blogger for Living a Simply Fly Life and Simply Me Sydnie B. I am also a full-time Flight Attendant for a regional airline, based in the DFW airport. I represent the millennial girl that is in search of a true community and wants to make a difference in the world she travels. I love fashion, food and all things animals, wine, and coffee. I am working on my brand every single day because it is a reflection of who I am, and that is always growing and evolving! I am so proud of the relationships I have built through this platform of social media, the relationship with the love of my life that has grown through the last 2 1/2 years, and the tribe of women I get to encourage and meet every day. This truly has been a place to share my love for the world of travel and fashion. I am so proud to speak about mental health, promote body positivity and encourage kindness! It is a blessing to interact and possibly impact someone that may have needed a little bit of encouragement and just so happened to find it on your page on the internet.

Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well-positioned for?
Women are incredible leaders. Some raise families and run multi-million dollar companies. We are the ultimate multi-tasker. I know so many of my friends who are mothers that have time management down to a careful science because they know some of those minutes in the day are crucial to productivity. I think we, as women, are so resilient and the sense of community is so strong it causes seismic waves in society. I mean as the great Beyoncé said, “who runs the world?, Girls”.
