Meet Allyson Johnson and Leisa Barger of SipSavorSisters in DFW Metro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allyson Johnson and Leisa Barger.

Allyson and Leisa, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
For seven years, I lived in Colorado and away from my sister (Leisa Barger). Life was pretty busy for us both and we didn’t get to see each other as much as we would have liked and we really missed being able to get together over a meal or coffee or wine whenever we liked. Not long into our living states apart, our dad passed away and we realized that family was first, time was short, and we longed to spend more time together. When our family (Allyson’s) moved back to the Dallas area last year, Leisa and I made a promise to reunite and reaquaint over good food throughout the DFW Metroplex area. Our first outing was at Woodlands American Grill where over a beautiful cup of cappuccino, we decided to start taking pictures of our reuniting meals and post on Instagram. We saw this as our “photo album” of beautiful food and drinks that brought us back together a little bit at a time, day by day, week by week, year by year. It started off simple enough, but in a short time a few wonderful chefs took notice of us and how their delicious food brought us back together and they began supporting us and our Instagram account kept growing and growing from there!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Fortunately for us, this has been pretty smooth. The hardest part was really learning to post and edit and put our stuff out there in a way that people would like. Sometimes the amount of emails, invites, etc. can get a little overwhelming but we truly consider it all joy that this has happened to us and has allowed us to meet so many wonderful people within the food world of DFW. The hard part now is managing our time and making sure we can do justice to the food, and all of the hard-working people in the food industry that we love.

SipSavorSisters – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
SipSavorSisters is considered a food influencer Instagram page although we like to think of ourselves as true foodies who like food so much that our attention to it just comes naturally. We truly know the food industry can be tough and the DFW area can be fickle when it comes to food choices so we want to support and promote the industry that reunited us as sisters. We are most proud of the fact that we truly have all organic growth in a very short time and we are certain that is due to the fact we believe food brings people together and truly makes magic happen. When people are gathered around good food and drinks, they are almost always happy.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The day we hit 1,000 followers, I think we both looked at each other and thought, “Whoa, this could get big and beyond us really quickly.” We knew though we had hit upon something that fit us and fit our lifestyle. We also knew people were responding to our passion for food and for gathering around food. Again, we don’t meet a lot of unhappy people hunkered over a plate of good food or enjoying a fabulous cocktail!
