Meet Daryl Mayfield

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daryl Mayfield.

Daryl, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was always the class clown that made funny voices, and I was always giving voices to my toys as a kid. That translated into a love of acting, and at the age of eight, I was the master of ceremonies for a large production at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship. Since then, I’ve always found myself on the stage in some form. I realized in my teens, that character acting was my favorite aspect of the art.

I’ve always been a huge fan of cartoons and anime and became enamored with the voice actors that played my favorite characters. That sparked a fire in me to pursue voice acting as a career.

Has it been a smooth road?
Seriously, pursuing voice over as a career has had its ups and downs. The upside this year is I’ve booked a client for E-learning videos that has turned into a fruitful long term relationship. As for the lows, I do audiobook narration as well, and every once in a while, I get a string of rejections from projects that I thought I was perfect. One of the things I’ve learned is that is just the nature of the business and all I can do is continue to train and get better at my craft.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Daryl Mayfield Voice, LLC – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am a voice-over artist and I specialize in audiobook narration, voice-over for e-learning videos, and I’m working my way into the video game industry. There are not many African American voice actors in the DFW area, let alone the VO (voice-over) industry altogether. I believe I bring an energetic and rare sound to the industry. I have great versatility in character voices, including female voices and creature sounds.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the diversity of things to do. If my wife and I feel like listening to music, we can easily find a jazz club or a local indie rock band to see. There are always new things to discover from finding amazing food in Klyde Warren Park to exploring small towns like Old Town Lewisville. You can do all of this within an hour worth of travel.

Pricing:

  • for Audiobook narration, I charge $300 per finished hour including editing and mastering
  • for how-to videos, I charge $40 per finished minute
