Meet Freddie Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Freddie Jones.

Freddiej was licensed as a cosmetologist in 1993 in Dallas, Tx. Worked in several salons, but found her spot in Salon Etc, with Lennel Brown, to be her most advantages to her career. She started taking advanced training classes and as her career started to soar, she was then diagnosed with ovarian cancer. This setback only worked in her favor as she learned that faith was what she needed to continue living life to its fullest and always depending on God and keeping him first. Freddie went through chemotherapy for six months, several surgeries and returned to work after 18 months, and the rest is history…

Freddie started attending classes again and continued hosting hair shows in the Dallas area, that she had begun prior to the cancer diagnosis. She then became a national educator for Dudley products, educating across the country, traveling to over 30 cities, teaching advanced haircutting.

Freddie was chosen to compete in her 1st Bronner brothers competition in Atlanta, Ga., in 2000, she has since competed five times, winning a 1st place prize of 10,000, in 2002, and placing 3rd in a tournament on champions in 2013. She was also chosen as 1 of four stylists for Bronner brother’s 60th-anniversary show to compete in the Bronner Brothers Hair Battle, which resulted being filmed and produced as a movie, Chris Rock’s documentary, Good Hair.

The competition was also filmed by BET and aired as the pioneer show of Tears, Shears, and Beauty.

Freddie j was recognized by the City of Dallas, and Mayor Tom Lepert as a trailblazer in the field of Cosmetology and bringing a positive light to the City in 2010, because of her work in the documentary and in the city.

Freddie has received many awards, educator of the year, trailblazer awards, icon awards, to name a few. Her work has graced the cover of many magazines and been featured in many national magazines, such as essence, black hair, hype hair, and many others.

Freddie continues to educate and inspire stylists across the country. She has over 18 educational DVDs on haircutting and styling. Freddie launched her 1st webinar in July 2019, with more to come. She relaunched her hair show in 2011, which was her 11th show, educating beauty industry professionals. Her next show will be in 2020 in Houston, tx. The show is titled “Relevant 2020.” It will be held @ The Studio, a black-owned venue in Houston on April 5th and 6th.

The show consists of two days of educational sessions for all beauty industry pros, a Tux an Chucks cut party, which the public is invited to as well on Sunday night.

Freddiej believes education and consistency is the key to and longevity in the industry. She loves the industry and values the mentoring of the many mentors she has encountered that made a valuable impact on her successful journey. Dr. Joe L. Dudley, Sr., Barry Fletcher, Lennel Brown, Ms. Parsons, and Rainer Lind, just to name a few.
