Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Smith.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We started sitting in our driveway grilling burgers talking about what we can do that would allow us to work for ourselves and not corporate America. During these discussions, we decided we didn’t want to try to buy a franchise and we needed a low cost start up. We tossed around several ideas including mobile oil change. Over the next month as I did research, I kept thinking about mobile oil change ideas, and it became obsessive. I have been doing it all my life out of dislike for the commercial options available. This led to the basis of S&M Mobile Lube, great products, honest services and all around your schedule. After 6 months of planning, research and prepping we managed to start up at the end of April 2017.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
On the most part it’s been fairly smooth, to date we are self funded so we keep an eye on money and currently I am still working my old job because I need affordable health care for my family. To date and moving forward health care is the greatest hurdle we face as a small business. Currently business is slow while building a client base which we expected and at times that’s frustrating but it’s also a challenge and amazingly rewarding as we get the whole operation rolling.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with S&M Mobile Lube – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
S&M Mobile Lube provides oil changes and basic automotive maintenance at your location. If you need an oil change, battery replacement, brake job or tune up we can take care of you while you are working. We stand out because we come to the client’s location preventing them from having to miss work or family time to get their car serviced; and let’s face it, the waiting room at every oil change place is dirty. We take great pride in both the quality of our work and the parts we choose to use. There are a lot of parts out there but if I would not put them in my wife’s care. I will not charge somebody and use them. We are building a partnership with our customers based on trust and quality at a fair price and we feel that will set us apart and allow us to build a business we can be proud of.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Our plans in the near future is to get to a point where we can upgrade so more efficient equipment and provide a sustaining wage and insurance. In the long run, we are excited to grow our business to a point we need to bring on additional equipment and employees to provide our core service to anybody that wants it.
