Today we’d like to introduce you to Romona Lee.
Romona, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Thank you for allowing us to share our story! We are a family of five, and have been in the print business since 2017 through personalizing children’s apparel under our first online business “It’s My Party Kids Boutique”. Since 2017, we were able to do side projects periodically for friends and family who needed adult tees for events (birthday parties, reunions, etc). Eventually, we were asked to do a few bigger projects that expanded beyond tees (totes, jackets, blankets, etc.), and “Fab Five” was eventually born! I’d stepped away from my full-time corporate position earlier this year to exclusively work on growing and managing our family businesses. With this, I had more time to devote to actually building up the print shop side. We legitimized “Fab Five Print Shop” (aka: F5PS) in the summer of this year as its own business aside from the boutique, and are happy to be able to provide a local resource for people needing quality tees, tote bags, jackets, etc in the community!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has been anything BUT a smooth road! In addition to raising a young family (our three children are all under the age of five), we run another business (the children’s boutique), and my husband works a full-time corporate job. So, our days are super hectic (to say the least!) I actually can’t even believe we were able to build our businesses while we were a dual full-time corporate family. The biggest struggles I would say that we faced (and continue to manage) are TIME (or lack thereof) and the huge learning curve that comes with this industry. Both my husband and I have always had an interest in apparel and printing in some form, but to actually LEARN how to do it was another story. We are STILL learning. And we know there’s still so much to learn, but we are proud of the quality of product we’ve been able to provide to our client base!
Please tell us about Fab Five Print Shop.
Our business specializes in QUALITY printing for just about any occasion. Our clients call on us for tees for girl’s trips, bachelor parties, family reunions, school events, team walks and runs, baby showers… you name it. We also offer options for printed tote bags, aprons, blankets, jackets, and hoodies. I believe what sets us apart is our in-house design capability (both my husband and I are huge art and design lovers, and I think that shows in our work), personalization capability, and our deep love and concern that each order is absolutely LOVED by the client. To get a client message, email, or text after they’ve opened a box from us, and to “hear” the excitement in their message makes all the long hours absolutely worth it! Also, what sets us apart from others is our dedication to QUALITY! In my former corporate life, I worked in the product development area for a well-known retailer. I learned so very much from that opportunity about creating products! Especially, the love of making sure that something was of QUALITY for the end consumer. I’d like to think that experience has transferred over now into our family businesses.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood was just sitting at my desk in my room and drawing for hours. That still makes me smile! I loved art from as early as I can remember. My husband also loved art and drawing from an early age. It makes me SO HAPPY to see our children also embrace art in their own ways. (Especially the youngest one – who is our “Picasso” who likes to draw and color on any surface that’ll sit still long enough!)
