Today we’d like to introduce you to Mayra Becerril.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Mayra. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started this business because I wanted to get out of my daily same routine. I’m a wife and a mother 24 hours a day and we needed some extra money, but I think we’ll not see that extra money for a while. I wanted to feel useful, I know I was but I had forgotten about myself, about being a woman, so I decided to start this business adventure. The main thing I wanted out of my business was to promote the handmade industry around the whole world. I started off with Mexico, my native country, with some wonderful hand-painted hats, dolls with typical dresses of different Mexican states, handmade soaps, and felt dolls. Then came Indonesia with ragdolls, Brazil with cute cloth bears, Peru with unique and beautiful charms and clay earrings and, Russia with dolls. It is just the beginning for my small business, but little by little we will have more handmade products from different places which will help mini businesses like mine.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been easy having this business, it’s been quite challenging. Personally, it has been challenging for me since I got out of my comfort zone, where I was at home with my family. Now I go out to events, sometimes the weather doesn’t collaborate well with me, but I still go to the events. I always keep in mind, Nothing is easy and if you have a dream you have to fight for it.
Yhoaki – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Yhoaki is about promoting the handmade industry from different parts of the world. I feel very satisfied with my business because I’m helping other businesses like me, to achieve their dreams. Yhoaki is different from others because it helps out other growing businesses and gives us help back. This has helped me achieve my dream that I never thought I would have.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is when no matter how much you’ve fallen you still keep fighting and build up experience. I, myself have fallen throughout my business. There are sometimes where I go to events and I don’t sell anything. But I learn, that people don’t go out of crazy weather or that I need to spread the word of the event more. I’ve kept fight and pushed myself and learned. Now I’m happy to say I’m proud of what I’ve done, I’m becoming successful and achieving my dream.
