Today we’d like to introduce you to Olyvia Troop.
Olyvia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Although my journey to this point has been long, tireless, and self-sacrificing it has been greatly rewarding. My whole life I’ve been a visionary always creating ideas, and I tend to throw myself into whatever I do with nothing but pure passion. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial state of mind and my overall goal in life has always been to be in a position to take care of my family and show them that it doesn’t matter how much money you have or don’t have, as long as you’re resourceful with a combination of ambition YOU can do anything that you put your mind to. I’ve owned businesses in Beauty, Real Estate, Consulting, Public Notary and Cleaning and every one of them has given me skills that I can use on a daily basis. I come from a military family background and I’ve had to move around a lot. That being said, at times I would have to completely change my career due to what business was needed and could financially sustain me while living in each location. It was hard and at times, I was highly frustrated, being a female business owner is not all roses and berries, it’s hard work and there are times where I could go months with no days off! In everything that I’ve ever done by far, Real Estate is my favorite. I fell into this industry initially wanting to do Apartment Leasing as a licensed Agent, but it was like pulling teeth to find a good mentor and someone to show me the ropes of the business.
After a couple of years, I decided to move around, and I landed a job as a Lead Intake Specialist and Transactions Coordinator for a Real Estate Wholesaler. I had never even heard of wholesaling until I worked here and once I was there, I realized that I could be really successful in this type of industry. I advanced quickly to a Dispositions Manager and then an Acquisitions Specialist. After I left that company, I figured I’d just work for someone else in the industry, but God said not so! I realized that I didn’t need to work for someone else and that I had more than enough resources to do it on my own. I Googled my butt off on information regarding the industry, attended networking events and several classes in Wholesaling. I decided to walk in faith, and I invested in myself in a way that I never had. I’m not going to lie, I was super scared, and I was nervous about stepping out on my own in this particular industry. I put that fear aside and turned it into drive and I convinced myself and my family that I could do it and be successful at it. And you know what, I did and I am. I get to assist investors, as well as help homeowners, sell their homes at fair margins. On top of that, I get to mentor others in the industry and make money while doing what does NOT feel like work. I have a strong passion for helping others, and in this industry, I am helping people on a daily basis and it feels amazing!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’ve been there and done that, I promise you that it has NOT been a smooth journey to this point of my life! I was married and then divorced due to my spouse’s infidelity. At that time, I didn’t think that life could give me anything besides issues and heartache. I had to find myself, which took several years and throughout that time I endured financial hardships, depression, PTSD, sexual abuse, and complete lack of get up and go. I finally hit a wall head first so to speak and at that moment, I realized I couldn’t depend on others for my happiness or success, but I had to motivate myself and get my life back on track for myself and my children. If I could give any advice to young women starting their journey to their purpose in life it would be to not allow your doubt or others to keep you from what you achieve. What God has for you is for you and no one can take that from you. Trust that you have the skills, intellect and ability to become a success in your own right. If you are having any negative thoughts or self-doubt, reprogram those thoughts, invest in yourself and trust the process. YOU can do it, believe in yourself and if you have the opportunity to learn from someone do it. The journey may be harder than you’re used to but the reward, in the end, gives great satisfaction.
What should we know about It’s Lyv? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Currently, I’m working in Real Estate Wholesaling and Property Management as well as Small Business Consulting. I’m known for my big smile and ability to show others how they can utilize numerous resources to excel in their businesses as well as earn money in Real Estate even without typical Real Estate experience. Everyone’s blueprint is unique and we can’t be duplicated. I’ll tell you everything I know within reason, you’ll just have to add your own personal stamp on it. I’m here to empower you, your team and provide them with the tools they need to succeed. My business is to support your growth, limit your turnover, and put you on a solid track to success and peace of mind.
Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
If you’re not personable, then you need to figure out a way that you can communicate to all types of audiences so that you can be successful in your journey. I am a networking lady and I am constantly attending networking events for my industry as well as I am a part of several groups on social media that give advice and we all help one another out professionally. My advice to anyone seeking a mentor is to first be prepared to have a long-lasting relationship with someone who not only will invest their time with you but someone who will be around possibly for a lifetime. Find someone that you want to emulate as well as someone who inspires you. It’s important to be prepared for constructive criticism and constant challenges to being a better you. Understand that finding a mentor should be organic and not forced. Always, always commit to the process so that you both can reap the benefits of the relationship.
