Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Baldwin.
Tiffany, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I always enjoyed shopping at boutiques. I loved supporting others while finding unique pieces that weren’t in everyday department stores. While I have a great job, I always believed in having multiple sources of income. Still, I was having difficulty choosing a profitable venture I could enjoy. One day, I was reading an article that spoke of investing in things you love to do. It was around a milestone birthday for me, and it hit me, I should invest in fashion! I chose to open an online boutique and name it after my birthday, September 16; this way, I am always reminded of my growth every year. The date also signifies my new baby, 9Sixteen, being born!
Has it been a smooth road?
I always feel the experience during the journey is a matter of perspective. Has this journey had its lessons. Quickly, I understood that not having a significant following via social media may limit my company’s growth. I, in turn, spent a ton of time and researching and understanding whole sellers and the best vendors to utilize. Lastly, I learned not to buy based solely on what I liked. Fashion is for everyone, and the point is to express yourself with diversity and creativity! I started selecting pieces outside my norm, and some items I didn’t think would sell out-sold products I expected to do well. I am still learning and expanding, but I find the journey to be precisely what it should be great risk, great reward! Every step was necessary to get to the next!
Tell us more about the business.
My online fashion boutique is 9Sixteen Boutique and caters to women from all backgrounds, sizes, and lifestyles. My boutique specializes in providing the latest trends at reasonable prices and using fashion to build confidence within women. Despite my business not being huge, I sell out of products rather quickly. I’m proud that I’ve learned who my audience is and how to cater to them. What sets my boutique apart from other stores is that I know what works for me and see my only competition is myself. I am continually evolving and learning, and that allows me to be more creative versus providing what most online boutiques offer.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Eventually, 9Sixteen will be a household name with its warehouse and wholesale clothing so I can help other entrepreneurs and small businesses grow! I am looking forward to working with more stylists, expanding my brand online, shipping worldwide, and being able to travel internationally. My passion is to help women look and feel their best in my clothes.
