Meet Andrew Horne of Targét in Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Horne.

Andrew, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started performing in drag about a year ago because I was pushed by my drag mother to try a competition called “Drag Class” and it teaches newer queens sewing, hosting, presentation, and overall being a polished queen. After the competition, I was booked and busy because of my high energy numbers and fun/polished makeup and costumes. Ever since then I’ve been making my name in the Austin scene and have won the title of ‘Miss Fresh Meat’! You can currently catch me every month at Wild 2.0 and/ or Elysium or Rain on the 4th! Also,  every Friday I’ll be performing at OCH on 4th ST.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a performer/artist is a struggle, to say the least. You don’t get into this career for the money but more for the joy, you get out of creating your art and the joy you see on people’s faces when they see you. I’ve struggled with making money, especially in drag because usually, you are spending more money on your look then what you’re getting paid for a show. You have to make what you have work and a lot of my costumes I edit and/or create myself because I can’t afford to be ordering clothes online constantly.

Please tell us about your art.
Targét is an up and coming drag artist that has proven themselves in competitions and performances and can be seen in the local Austin drag scene. They lean more towards the alternative side of beauty and like to show off their makeup skills on their online social media platform (Instagram: @targetthequeen).

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career is kind of hard to choose because I’ve been given some amazing opportunities. Other than winning Miss Fresh Meat and performing with Drag Race/Dragula girls I would have to say my proudest moment was perforated the Austin International Drag Festival. AIDF is the largest drag festival in the world and brings artists from all over the world and I was fortunate enough to get to perform every single day of the festival. It gave me such a huge platform and made me realize how much potential I have as an artist.
