Meet Sydney Wells

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Wells.

Sydney, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Exactly one year ago I noticed a void in the DFW Craft Beer scene that I felt needed to be filled. There is a stigma in the craft beer community that not enough women, African Americans or even LGBTQ members are being showcased. I wanted that to begin to change and I figured why not create that environment?

I wanted an environment where we could become a family that supports our small craft beer businesses. I wanted us to do MORE than just show up to these establishments. I wanted us to raise money for local charities by us doing what we already do so well, by drinking beer. We’ve partnered with local charities, businesses and local community members to provide events throughout the DFW that raise awareness and funds for those around us who need it most. Our logo reflects my two dogs with a hop in the background. Is there anything much better than sharing a beer on a patio with your pup? This is just one of the things we do together as a group.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
With success and growth always come its various sets of challenges and struggles. For us, it was the time it took to get these events together when there are so many moving parts. This is a group that operates after our full time jobs are done for the day so it can cut down on hours spent for planning or organizing. Some of the harder parts have been being able to nail down vendors, food trucks and brewery space to all be there on the same day and time. Luckily we’ve been able to get our events done with minimal cancellations but it still can be tricky at times.

Tell us more about the organization.
DFW Brew Squad is a group that supports and emphasizes on drinking local. Our tag line is, “Loyal to Local”. We are known for coming to your craft beer establishment in the DFW to support anniversaries, new beer releases, holiday parties and you name it. We show up and we support, that’s our specialty.

What I’m most proud of is our willingness to come together for various charity events we put together. Our members bring family members and friends to help raise money for our events. I’m proud that breweries and growler bars are more than willing to partner with us to help provide an avenue to help those who need our assistance. I’m always proud to see everyone volunteering to help us get to our next destination.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’m not sure I can speak to good luck or bad luck and how it’s played in our group efforts. I firmly believe in meaning what you say and letting your actions show up after that. I’ve managed to keep a level head throughout my life experiences, which has led me to be able to create a group that consistently shows up in the world in a positive light. We truly need more of that in our world today.
