Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer McCauley.
Jennifer, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Inspire Physical Therapy and Wellness has been my dream for over 15 years. Prior to becoming a physical therapist, I first began my career by teaching Pilates. Pilates is a movement re-education system that is therapeutic and holistic in nature. Inspired by the work I was doing, I decided to go back to graduate school, and in 2008 I graduated with my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. Having Pilates as my background, I knew its rehabilitation benefit and worked to integrate these two disciplines. I spent the first ten years of my career developing my clinical skills in California. I became a Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist and received post-doctoral training in pelvic floor therapy through Kaiser Permanente, where I worked for many years in their Urology Department.
In 2017, my husband and I relocated our family to Grapevine from Los Angeles. I had a four-year-old son and a 12-week old daughter. We soon fell in love with Texas! The people and the community were unlike anything we experienced in California. It felt like the right time to finally bring my dream of a Pilates-based physical therapy and wellness center to life!
Has it been a smooth road?
Starting a business is never easy, you have to go ALL in! There have been many challenges along the road, all of which have served to stretch me and help me grow. To begin with, I am not a business person by nature. I am a clinician. Learning to be a business owner is an on-going process which continually challenges my comfort zones. I was lucky enough to meet a woman who would at first become my friend and eventually my business partner. Her skill set picked up where mine left off. She helped take my vision from me renting a room out of a Pilates studio to a full brick and mortar business with four employees.
The other challenge I continue to face is that of work-life balance. I am a mother of two young children, a wife, a friend, and a business owner. I wear many different hats. Finding balance is not easy. I often leave for work before the sun comes up and I’m home late at night. Making time for self-care is imperative in this process. I take time to work out five times/week, eat well, and get proper sleep. I also make quality time for my family and friends. I am blessed to have an amazing husband who believes in me and supports me in my vision. Together we navigate the daily ups and downs of parenting, careers, and life. I am forever grateful for his love and support!
We’d love to hear more about your practice.
At Inspire Physical Therapy and Wellness we provide one-on-one, hour-long physical therapy sessions to our patients. Our practice specializes in all orthopedic and sports-related injuries including back, neck, shoulder, hip or knee pain. We also provide running assessments utilizing video analysis and a variety of movement coordination tests to help runners run pain-free and prevent injury.
As a pelvic floor physical therapist, I specialize in all conditions related to the pelvis for both men and women, including incontinence, pelvic pain, prolapse, constipation, and more. As a mother to two young children, I have a passion for helping mothers to heal in the post-partum period and offer therapy and guidance for healing diastasis rectus (aka abdominal separation) as well as restoring core function.
At Inspire Physical Therapy and Wellness we utilize a variety of different movement modalities including Pilates-based rehabilitation, Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS), and Neurokinetic Therapy (NKT). We also incorporate manual therapy techniques including dry needling, Graston technique, and myofascial decompression (aka cupping). We don’t believe in a one size fits all approach. We custom tailor our physical therapy services to meet the specific needs of each patient. If your goal is to run a marathon, do yoga, or play golf, then we teach you how to take care of yourself in each of these endeavors.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I can’t tell you how grateful I am to have my practice here in the DFW Metroplex and particularly in Southlake. The Southlake Chamber is unbelievable support as are all the members I have met. We support each other in commerce, we utilize each other’s services. We have an amazing community that focuses on charity and giving back. As a business owner, I’ve been able to support the Carroll Education Foundation and will be sponsoring the GCS Gala in 2020 which is raising money for the Gatehouse, an organization that supports women and children escaping abusive situations.
My advice to anyone starting out is to get out there and meet people! Networking is key! There are also amazing women’s networking groups in our area that focus on supporting female small business owners; Females Advancing Business (FAB) and the Southlake Executive Women’s (SEW) are just a few in which I’ve had the opportunity to get to know some incredible ladies. We support each other, we lift each other up, and we work to improve the quality of life for our community.
