Today we’d like to introduce you to Shawn Jolly.
Shawn, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I worked for Park Place Lexus as an automotive technician for eight years. My wife and I had our last baby, and daycare was very expensive for two kids. So we decided I would quit my job to be a stay at home dad. Six months went by, and I picked up a camera to give me something to do. I started taking photographs of friends and family merely as a hobby. A friend of mine who worked for Southernwind Pool Company contacted me and wanted me to photograph his completed projects.
After photographing all of their projects, we started winning awards from the ASPA. Then a few of my realtor friends started asking me to photograph their properties that were listed for sale. Today, I have a staff of four and we only photograph real estate. I started in the DFW Metroplex and have now expanded to Northeastern Florida. We photograph 8-12 homes a day, Monday – Friday, and offer additional services for our clients from measurements to 3-D tours.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road was not a smooth one. Trying to figure out the best equipment for real estate photography, the costs associated with replacing gear, finding the right software, and hiring my team, etc. were all huge challenges. On top of all of this, I had to try and balance my family and home life, all while working 16 hours a day. Plus, trying to get my name out there for all to see made for some long and exhausting days!

We offer photography via land and air, 3d tours, flyers; pretty much anything needed for a realtor in today’s market. Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Good luck has played a large role in meeting the right contacts at the right time. We just partnered up with a local Jacksonville staging company to photograph all of their client’s homes. Being at the right place at the right time.
Bad luck, well, I take the good with the bad. We’ve experienced growing pains, expansion pains and clients that just come and go. It’s all in how we respond to those tough situations and learn from them, which sets us apart.
