Today we’d like to introduce you to Kalee Daily.
Kalee, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story starts in the heart of Kansas (Rock Chalk!!), where I decided to attend Z Hair Academy in Lawrence, Kansas. This was something I had always wanted to do. After cosmetology school, I struggled to find a salon where I wanted to build my business and I had always dreamed of living in Texas so I decided to make the move. I chose Dallas because let’s be real, Dallas loves good hair! After arriving in Texas, I started working at the Salon at Ulta until I found a salon that I wanted to be in. My good friend was working at Lure and told me they were looking for assistants for the holiday season coming up so I applied and was hired for the job. I started the week of Thanksgiving and it was crazy busy but thankfully having some experience behind the chair, I was able to catch on very quickly. I assisted for eight months until I completed the curriculum which required bringing in models every Wednesday and taking various classes until I was giving the opportunity to take clients. I have been working behind the chair at Lure now for almost two years.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I would definitely say moving to a whole new state was a huge struggle. I left my family and friends to start a new journey and to further my career. It was difficult being alone for the first few months before I found a community of people and a salon I wanted to work in. Lure has been an amazing transition. We all work together so well and it feels like home away from home.
Please tell us about Lure Salon.
Lure is an eco-friendly salon that provides amazing products, great service and professionally trained stylists for our clients. We are a departmentalized salon which really allows us to dedicate ourselves fully to perfecting our craft.
My passion has always been taking care of people and I love being able to be creative through hair color. I really listen to my clients and connect so that I am able to craft a hair color that is unique to them and something that is specific to their lifestyle.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I still feel relatively new to the industry in Dallas so it’s hard to say what I would do differently but my best advice to someone starting out would be to really brand yourself on social media. Social media is a huge factor in this industry and can really affect obtaining a clientele.
