Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Solis.
Brandon, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always been a huge fan of video games and animation. The stories they told, and the characters living in these imagined worlds. Thinking about these characters sparked a question in my mind; who is breathing life into these characters? I was fascinated by the people behind my favorite characters in games and cartoons. These stories and actors helped to shape parts of my childhood imagination.
I began by physically and vocally acting them out in games with friends, and inevitably moved to Dallas in order to do for others what the actors from my childhood did for me. Pursue a career in voiceover and ignite imagination in the minds of audiences.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Pursuing a career in any mode of acting has its obstacles and challenges. Those challenges are all rewarded when landing a client or role though. Every actor goes through bits of dry spells, sending audition after audition, but it’s important to keep moving forward and to keep trying. That perseverance is exactly what has gotten me to where I am today and allows me to do what I love.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Brandon Solis Voiceworks – what should we know?
The short and more direct answer is, I’m an actor. I’ve done stage and film work, but I like to focus on voiceover. Within voiceover, I’ve specialized in animation and audiobooks; I’m also getting into the video game industry.
It’s important to recognize that everyone has something unique to bring to the table. One of the stronger things I bring to the industry is capability and authenticity. As a bilingual Latino voiceover artist, I’ve not only been able to fill roles in which the character only speaks Spanish, but I’ve also been able to advise, direct, and play characters using specific dialects, honorifics, and cultural nuances.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
An essential quality for success, at least in my experience, is your ability to network and to approach every job/client with humility. Meeting directors and other voiceover artists is going to continuously occur along your journey. Being authentic, honest, and humble about yourself not only translates into your performances but also builds strong bridges between yourself and fellow colleagues in the industry.
