Meet Amy Glover and Christina Alft of Mama Llamas Creative in Flower Mound / Lewisville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Glover and Christina Alft.

Amy and Christina, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Mama Llamas Creative began when Christina and I found ourselves volunteering in the same youth theater. We were already friends through church and our kids just happen to be entering into the same theater program, which required parent volunteer time. Christina found her spot in makeup, leading other parents in everything from basic stage makeup to speciality makeup from a beast to fairies. I started as a board member but quickly found my passion in stage photography. Our eyes started to open to the value of what we were doing. We were serving people, not just our kids’ theater company, and it was amazing.

After working together for about two seasons, we decided, on a whim, to dub ourselves Mama Llamas Creative and offer our creative services to the public. We found we both began to have a passion for serving others using the creativities we were given.

I would be remiss not to mention a third mama. Our dear friend Sarah joined us on this journey, but only for a short time. She and her family moved to CA recently and we dearly miss her.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Where’s the smooth road?? I want to take that one! We have definitely had our struggles. We both are moms and wives, but we also work part-time. Christina is a human resources manager, wife, and mom to three. I am a counseling intern, wife, and homeschool mom to three. So fitting Mama Llamas Creative into our already busy schedule seems like a fool’s errand some days.

Aside from our personal schedules, we both work diligently to get the name out there, which means we have offered our services for free for several clients. We want to be affordable, but the craft of makeup and image enhancing can be tedious. We know we need to make a name for ourselves, to earn people’s trust, and we are still working towards that.

Sometimes we wonder if this will be worth it, but then we will get a client. Christina will pick up her brush and I will look through the lens to capture the beauty of the individual(s) in front of me and it’s all worth it.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Mama Llamas Creative specializes in theater / live event makeup and photography, but we also love working with families and individuals. As a company, our proudest moments come when we connect with our clients. Building the relationships that we would have otherwise never experienced is a huge blessing for us. It’s when a client looks in the mirror and experiences joy in what they see or when a client sees their photos and connects with the moment that was captured. When the people we work with can see the value they have as a person when they can see the beauty in themselves that others see in them, and when they can know they are loved, we will be humbly proud in that.

And we feel those moments are what set us apart. We are just a couple of moms who love God, our families, live theater and events and love people. If we can use any of what we have been given to give others a moment where they feel love and feel worth, that’s all we want to do.

We were created to create. And it’s through our creativity we desire to create such an experience for our clients.

What were you like growing up?
Christina is a homegrown girl. Growing up in Dallas, she would find herself working at her family’s restaurant, Ojeda’s. Christina attended local schools and eventually met her husband right here. Christina has always had a passion for the arts, whether it be paintings, sculpture, fashion, music, or makeup, and considers herself an amateur painter. Christina has always had a passion for life in general and is definitely a glass half full kind of gal. She found her passions gained even more life when she fell in love with Jesus.

Amy grew up in South Carolina and Arkansas and moved to TX ten years ago when her husband’s job transferred. Amy has always had a passion for music and live events. Growing up, Amy always had a desire to connect with others and would always push boundaries she felt would hinder that desire (aka, she gave her parents a lot of grief). Amy became a Christian in her 20s and was able to direct that desire towards volunteering in nonprofits.
