Today we’d like to introduce you to Adina Rich.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Adina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been working with children and families for more than 25 years. Learning has always been a passion of mine, and I knew from an early age that I wanted to be an educator.
Growing up in the local area, I was lucky to study and learn Spanish. I spent many years as a bilingual general and special education teacher working in Texas public schools. I enjoyed collaborating with colleagues and engaging with families. As a curriculum specialist and assistant principal, I developed a passion for learning how children learn and what methods were best to reach each student.
As my career continued to advance, I discovered that families needed more resources for which I felt that I needed more training to provide. After returning to school to obtain my master’s in counseling and psychology, I worked as a counselor and assessment specialist for the next few years.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the school system, but when I started my own family, I felt it was time to move in a new direction. I opened my private practice in 2003 focusing on identifying student strengths through coaching parents and teachers and performing learning and psycho-educational evaluations. I found an appreciation for parents trying to collaborate with schools, outside providers, and even each other to develop solid programming to facilitate their child’s success, so In 2010 I added school advocacy services and in 2016, family law evaluations.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There are always bumps in the road. It takes time to develop a vision and create a support network and community partnerships. Maintaining work-life balance between my practice and motherhood has definitely been my biggest challenge. As a sole proprietor, I am responsible for all aspects of my business, including customer service, social media marketing, accounting, appointment scheduling, and report writing.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We provide resources for children and families needing evaluations and diagnosis, coaching, or interventions in the areas of Autism, Learning Disability, Dyslexia, Auditory Processing, ADHD or Behavior. We also offer College Accommodations & School Readiness Evaluations.
We also well known for our unique approach to advocacy for Special Education IEPs or 504 plans. We have been honored by the community for our collaboration and our results-oriented perspective. We also offer parent education, parent workshops, teacher/caregiver workshops and support. I am proud of how tailored each and every service are to a child’s or families’ needs,
I bring a unique and fresh viewpoint to the table. As a trained mediator, I have learned to listen and define issues. As a former educator, I understand how schools operate. And as a parent to children with different abilities, I recognize, first hand, how challenging it is to get everyone to realize your child’s strengths and to access needed services.
What were you like growing up?
I have always been driven and results-oriented. I love learning and was drawn to challenging perceptions about disabilities from an early age. I love to travel and was a voracious reader.
