Today we’d like to introduce you to Lance Fresard.
Lance, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 2000, my father was a pre-owned director of John Roberts BMW in Dallas. Which was later purchased by Autonation and is now known as BMW of Dallas. There was a sales associate that worked for my dad, Bill Bark. He saw an opportunity in wheel repair. My father cosigned on my first loan and I partnered with Bill one month after he started. We found a niche that allowed us to repair wheels onsite for a fraction of the cost of purchasing an “OEM” wheel. This saved the dealerships time and money. This business evolved over the course of time. Bill and I were partners until 2015. He was ready to go a different direction in life and I carried on with the business. Unfortunately, Bill passed away on February 9, 2016. I greatly miss him.
In May of 2015, I partnered with Kwicksilver Wheel Repair Pros. We are the 2nd largest wheel repair franchise. We are national and international. This allows me to warranty my work throughout the country.
When I think back to where we started, working out of the back of our pickup trucks to now having a full service wheel repair shop, I am amazed at what we have accomplished. It has taken a lot of time, sweat, and dedication to reach this goal.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There have been many obstacles and challenges along the way. My greatest has been overcoming my partner’s passing. He was not only a business partner but a mentor.
There have definitely been many trials that we have had to deal with and solve. We have had many issues with broken equipment. As margins have shrunk in the car industry, many dealerships are not willing to invest in a proper repair. Many dealerships have gone in-house as well to try to cut costs.
One thing that I have come to realize, I think every business owner, regardless of his/her industry finds themselves dealing with trials and tribulations. The businesses that flourish, figured out a way to conquer them.
Kwicksilver Dallas – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Kwicksilver Dallas is a full remanufacturing wheel repair shop. We specialize in wheel straightening, welding, cosmetic repair, polishing, powder coating, CNC machining services, mount and balancing of tires. We also offer PVD chroming, which is subbed out to our facility up north. At Kwicksilver Dallas, we are able to perform these repairs and give the customer a “like new” product for a fraction of the price. Most wheels that we work on are high-line wheels that typically range from $800-$1400 to replace. We are able to do these repairs for the range of $125-$150 per wheel. We deliver a product so close to the “OEM” finish that you will think you bought a new wheel.
The Dallas Ft. Worth Metro does have quite a few wheel repair companies. We focus on customer service. We go out of our way to earn our customer’s business and trust. The thing that sets us apart the most, besides our experience within our Kwicksilver team and being able to offer a nationwide warranty, is that 9 times out of 10 you are dealing directly with the owners. My wife and I are both very hands on in our business. Our eyes see every wheel.
As a company, we are most proud of our customer service. We go out of our way to service our customers. Everything is a 24 hour turnaround, whether you are a commercial or retail customer. We even offer same day powder coating for our retail customers by appointment. To my knowledge, this is something that no other wheel repair business is offering.
I really enjoy seeing happy customers. As things have become more and more corporate in our society, I think that most of your readers would agree that customer service has gone to the waste side. Owning my own business, allows me to offer something different. I take great pride in that.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success by being able to have my own business with the opportunity to secure my family’s financial goals. I will have truly made it when I do not have to work in the business every day. A true business continues to grow and prosper even when the owners are not there. I love my business and enjoy working in this industry. I look forward to the day when I am able to be in a complete manager role and do not have to work as a technician on a daily basis. What a truly great country we live in. Where opportunities like this, still exist.
