Meet Allison Mills of Allison’s Therapy Corner in Keller

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Mills.

Allison, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I earned my Master’s degree from the University of North Texas in 2015, and have worked as a Certified Speech-Language Pathologist in the school system and private practice setting.

In August 2018, I felt the Lord’s prompting to begin my own practice. After months of prayer and discussion with my husband, Caleb, I felt the Lord’s peace, confirmation, and direction to quit my job in February 2019. At that point, I dove in with the support of my entrepreneurial husband to begin my practice.

In February 2019, Allison’s Therapy Corner began in my very own home, originally as Allison’s Speech Corner. God blessed the business immensely and it began to grow quickly. In September 2019, the business was blessed with the opportunity to expand out of Allison’s home to a commercial location right here in Keller, TX. With this move came not only a name change to Allison’s Therapy Corner, but it also provided the ability to expand our services to offer both Speech Therapy along with Occupational Therapy. The goal of Allison’s Therapy Corner is to provide excellent, client-directed services in a comfortable, homey environment, providing families with more services in one great location!

I have a true passion for what I do and love serving kids and their families.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of it has been smooth, and some has been a struggle. I think the biggest struggle was learning the insurance billing/claim submission portion of the private practice. In order to learn more about this, I participated in a consult with someone who had extensive experience in insurance billing/practices. After that consult, I made one of the best decisions for the business by hiring my first team member, an insurance/billing specialist.

Another challenge was attempting to manage a growing business with a full speech therapy caseload. The Lord blessed me again with the opportunity to hire two part-time Speech Pathologists, one Occupational Therapist, and an administrative assistant. This has allowed me to continue to do therapy, which I love, but also to focus more attention on growing the business.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Allison’s Therapy Corner – what should we know?
At Allison’s Therapy Corner, we provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to children ages 18 months through 15 years of age in the areas of speech/language therapy and occupational therapy. The goal of Allison’s Therapy Corner is to provide excellent, client directed services in a comfortable, homey environment, providing families with more services in one great location! We build relationships with our clients to make their experience more enjoyable and successful! With Allison’s Therapy Corner, our clients will receive quality, individualized therapy services. Parents are included in their child’s plan of care and we will teach them the best ways to carry over skills learned in therapy to their child’s natural environments (home, school, etc.).

I think I am most proud and thankful for the growth that has occurred in the business in such a short amount of time. Also, I think our incredible therapist set us apart. Each one of the therapists here strive to provide excellent therapy services and go above and beyond for these clients. They aren’t just therapists…they each have a true servant’s heart, which I think is difficult to find in an employee.

Also, I think Allison’s Therapy Corner has a unique homey, welcoming environment. Our clients feel at peace when entering the clinic.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think mine and my husband’s (Caleb) reliance on the Lord’s provision, timing, and prompting has been a key to the success at Allison’s Therapy Corner. Our heart for this business is to be a light to each family that enters our doors! Caleb’s support for me in prayer, encouragement, and business advice has also been an active reason why Allison’s Therapy Corner is growing and succeeding!

I feel like the Lord has opened the door for a variety of opportunities: hiring additional staff members, being able to participate in presentations at preschools/daycare’s to bring more awareness to the field of speech pathology, and making new connections with other professionals.
