Today we’d like to introduce you to LaShaunda Robinson.
LaShaunda, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My story is simple, I grew up in Fort Worth, Tx (Stop Six to be exact) where some would consider the hood but I call it home. I learned the power of working hard from my parents and the rewards that would come from doing so. I am the proud mother of a daughter which is my greatest accomplishment and she has pushed me further than I could ever imagine.
I had a love for hair and criminal justice so I decided to take on cosmetology first and see what happens. To my surprise, my cosmetology career would blossom into 21 years to present and gain me a spot on the Bronner Brothers Haircare Team as an educator. While growing my career, I decided to also go to college and receive my Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Security and Justice. Life has given me ups and downs but by the Grace of God and a great support system, I’ve made it. Everything that I’ve experienced I used as recipe and stirred it all up and realized that it worked for my good.
Has it been a smooth road?
This road has not been easy, I’ve had to smile while crying on the inside at the same time standing behind the chair trying to make a living and encourage other women through it. I’ve been asked how did I survived and my response was with counseling and a village. Counseling was essential and the village of women that surrounded me was my house that I was able to come into and lay my head with judgment. As women, we carry alot and avoid asking for help and we’re scared of trusting someone else because of past and present hurt. Get the help that’s needed so that you can be successful in life and relationship.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Diva’s Den Hair Studio – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am known as The 5amStylist because I actually have my first client at 5am daily. Keeping your hair bouncy and on your head is what I’m known for. Trends only last for a season but a full head of hair can last you a lifetime if you want it. Hair can be short or long but I concentrate in keeping it solely on your head without negative spaces ( edges and center).
Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
Women are positioned for any opportunity that she is willing to work hard for. The opportunities are endless but at the same time, we must realize that there are something’s that we as women we lose as long the way but we gain double for our trouble later.
