Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony Suarez.
Tony, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I basically grew up around construction my whole life since my dad has always been in the remodeling business. I also have uncles who did plumbing for a living, and other family members who were in other trades, so you can say that was a usual topic growing up. I gained a lot of skills early on as a teenager using tools and working on different projects with my dad.
After graduating college, I didn’t bother looking for a job involving my degree but instead went straight into building outdoor patio covers as a subcontractor. The majority of my jobs were out of town so I did a lot of traveling until I eventually grew tired of it and started focusing more on marketing and growing my name locally in the Dallas area. Since growing my focus in the local area, I’ve been able to really settle into some new custom projects that I’ve always wanted to try and it has really given me the opportunity to develop my skills set as well as tackle much more challenging jobs.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I feel like it’s never a smooth road when you’re challenging yourself to improve and grow your brand. So struggles are always going to be in the way, but it’s how we overcome them that help us grow as a person.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the JS Builders story. Tell us more about the business.
I do a lot of outdoor living projects as well as some interior wood/carpentry and remodeling. A couple of things that keep me busy include remodeling apartment kitchens, installing outdoor pergolas, pavilions, fences, fence staining, accent walls, and barn doors. On my downtime, I also like to work on small woodwork projects.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t necessarily believe luck has played a role, but the amount of work that has gone into it and the long term goals are what keep me pushing forward. I’m nowhere near where I’d like to be but I’m enjoying the process and trying to patient.
