Today we’d like to introduce you to Chuck Robinson.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Chuck. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always been interested in music and the hip hop culture from a small child. Growing up in the 90s and early 2000s where hip-hop was literally taking over pop culture, it was hard for me to leave it alone. From shows like Fresh Prince, Martin, 106 & Park, and even the Nickelodeon Shows, hip hop was the base of all of it. I wrote my first rhyme at five years old, and haven’t put the pen down since.
Along the way, I’ve picked up trades to advance me, and help me express myself a lot easier, without any “middlemen,” similar to some of my favorite staples in the game. Over time, I learned how to record myself, mix, design own album art, clothes, and even shoot and edit videos. Even if I don’t become mogul of the century (lol), I can at least instill in somebody else coming up to be bold about what you want to do and don’t wait on anyone to hand anything to you.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Naw, definitely not a smooth road. Lots of ups and downs emotionally. Though we’ve had pretty decent success, we’ve taken plenty Ls to get there. When it comes to our path, we are definitely taking the road less traveled. Patience is one of the biggest things we battle on the journey. It doesn’t always mesh well when we are perfectionists too. Priorities outside of the music take precedence sometimes which can slow down the process as well. It can be mentally draining, but the love for the sport keeps us going.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
Dopetry is a Hip-Hop and R&B duo formed by me and my brother Dennis K. Noda. The music is fueled by our in house producer LB ThatProducerGuy. LB is like the Zay to our Gucci, Mustard to our YG, Dre to our Em, and so on. Our music showcases that we aren’t afraid to love and show love. It’s got this Florida bop with a dab of GA, and a now, a splash of Texas. We take the most pride in our bars and concepts in each song, it definitely sets us apart because we are still able to put it together and still deliver on top of that. Also, the fact that our skills like our writing and production are available to be used to help advance others is a definite plus.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I see success as a checkpoint. It’s many things that I aspired to do, that became minuscule to me once I achieved them. By the time I got to where I thought I wanted to be, my brain was already wrapped around the next mission. I never want to get too comfortable. I feel like even If I became a billionaire, I’d instantly look into ways I could make a Trilly.
