Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Haley.
Ashley, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Ashley Haley + Joseph was bred from my interest in creating things for myself, things such as clothes, I created a clothing rack, and last year I made a Nike rug all for personal use which grew further once it made it to Social Media so there was a need to house my projects under one brand. I obtained my B.S. degree in Architecture in 2013, attended Fashion School soon after for a year, and just always was interested in the arts and technology growing up. So today, Ashley Haley + Joseph encompasses all of my Architectural, fashion and furniture pieces. I say furniture but really its more so ‘home’ pieces.
A lot of my ready-to-wear fashion pieces have been given away or lost over the years, so when it comes to the fashion side of AH+J you’ll see patchwork, heat press services, alterations, and limited custom items. The Architectural piece of the brand consists of different services based on need whether conceptual design, 3D models and/or drawings. And last but not least the furniture/home entity of AH+J houses the clothing rack I did with the help of a friend (Dequales Thompson’s Workshop), it houses the custom rugs I started doing in 2019 and more exciting projects I will be presenting this year. Also, there was never a formal rollout or branding for AH+J so this year people will really get to know what and who Ashley Haley + Joseph is, which really is all just me; Ashley S. Haley. I am a single owner and operator, doing most of my work by hand.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I firmly believe nothing in life comes easy so I definitely use every day as a new opportunity to do better, learn from the obstacles and just run smoother and smarter. It’s been a thrilling road overall because of the connections made, the feeling I give to customers; that makes it all worthwhile and I’ll just look at the next obstacles/challenges as opportunities.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I may have gotten ahead of myself on this question, I explained a little earlier but my brand Ashley Haley + Joseph houses my Fashion, furniture and architectural work. AH+J is most known for the custom rugs for sure, people loved those and still inquire about them. I started with a Nike cut-out then shifted to Adidas and then customs. I am most proud of all the work I do because it’s a success no matter the feedback. I have so many ideas in my head I am just proud when one comes to life. I think my style and the projects I have put out set me apart alone.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Definitely the will to not give up, as I said earlier I feel most successful just by executing my ideas. Me executing ideas doesn’t have a schedule most of the time so this brand will be a forever growing thing which I believe will be successful more and more by not giving up. Always getting my ideas out of my head.
