Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanner Cartrite.
Tanner, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Where to begin? My life has taken many turns, hills ride to get where I am today!! It started seven years ago. I was working a dead-end job, wasn’t happy, hated getting up in the morning! I had been contemplating hair school for about a year! After a year of the representative of the school bugging me every week to get me in, I finally signed the dotted line! I went to school, had my fun, found my calling and my life! After two weeks in school, I knew what I was meant to do! Fast forward to six years later, I run a successful business Running with Scissors with my career flourishing every day! I have worked corporate salon, had my own suite, and now I work in a wonderful little salon in downtown Fort Worth TX!!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Life is never a walk in the park! I struggled with addiction and was living out of my car when I started hair school! I was no model citizen! I struggled every day for the first three months of school, where I would sleep, shower, gas money! But I survived and am stronger than ever for that! The struggles over the last six years haven’t been as hard but still challenging! Three weeks after I graduated school I packed my car with everything I owned and moved to a whole new town with a new skill set in hand! I worked my butt off to build a clientele and start my own business!! When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade! Well, welcome to my lemonade stand!
Running With Scissors – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Running with Scissors is a small, packed with personality, self-owned full-service hair salon tucked away in downtown Fort Worth! I specialize in bayalage, fantasy colors, men’s and women’s cuts and colors as well as extensions and Brazilian blowouts! I have had the honor of being apart of many women around the state as their bridal hairstylist as well!
What me so so proud of my company is how fast it has grown over the last four years! Never in my wildest dreams would I have seen where I am today!
No client is ever the same! You never know what will be thrown at you till they sit in your chair! They say “You’re a hairstylist? I would love to have your job! It’s so easy!!” Well, it’s not their lots of time on your feet, it’s like being a mad scientist! What’s set me apart is I love science and making everyone feel beautiful! It what gets me up in the morning!! I live for the smile and twinkle isn’t he eyes of my clients at the end of their experience with me! I don’t have appointments with my clients it’s always an experience!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Future? Such a big, strong word! I have always been a person that lives for the moment! Ride the wave, see where the wind blows me! But one day I would love to be a brand educator, travel and teach other people the tricks and trades! See my name in lights! Watch my work walk down the red carpet, be at the Oscars, the Grammys! But most importantly make my self and my clients happy and beautiful!!
