Meet James Lucas

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Lucas.

Thanks for sharing your story with us James. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born and raised in New Haven, CT. As a kid, I was always athletic and grew up playing sports, such as football, basketball, baseball and even karate. Once I was in high school, I started to become curious about nutrition and supplements. I wanted to know if what I ate could help make me faster, stronger, and better as an athlete. I started reading the nutrition facts on the cereal box and started reading “Sports Supplement Review”, a book by Bill Phillips. This marked the beginning of my passion for nutrition.

I attended the University of Connecticut and graduated with my B.S. in Nutritional Sciences, with a minor in Nutrition for Sport & Exercise. I worked for Women, Infant and Children (WIC) for one year as a nutritionist, counseling women of childbearing age on how to eat healthy for child rearing.

Following that, I started working for Yale-New Haven Hospital, where I trained to become a Registered Dietitian. I worked for the Yale Cancer Center for five years. During my tenure, I had the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of cancer, nutrition and research. While working at Yale Hospital, I pursued my masters in Exercise Physiology with the hopes of becoming a sports dietitian someday.

After graduating with my M.S., I decided to venture outside of CT. I relocated to Columbus, Ohio, where I started working as a Therapeutic Nutrition Specialist for Abbott Nutrition. This is where, I was able to share the benefits of nutrition to enhance patient and hospital outcomes. One year following my time in Ohio, I moved to the great state of Texas. Now, as a Clinical Liaison, I work with hospital administrators, nurses, dietitians and other clinicians to share my expertise on the critical role that nutrition plays in patient care. I am also a Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics focused on improving the performance of hospitalized patients and active individuals.

I have always had a passion for helping others reach their full genetic potential through adoption of individualized healthy eating and exercise habits. As a result, I started my own business JLucas Nutrition & Exercise, where I coach people on healthy eating for fitness, weight loss and general health.

Through social media, I am able to encourage people to live an active and healthy lifestyle. I had the opportunity to do some modeling and work with a sports nutrition company. I started to build a partnership with music executives and up and coming artists carrying the message of good health and wellness through nutrition and fitness.

In 2018, I was inspired to write and self-publish my first book, “Hip Hop Nutrition Volume 1: A Simple, Delicious, Nutritious Approach for Health & Fitness.” Throughout my life, I have been inspired to pursue my passion for fitness and nutrition. Hip Hop music has also been great motivator for me and has helped fuel my workouts. Hip Hop Nutrition Volume 1 is my way of giving people a motivating endorsement to eat nutritiously for health and fitness.

I have been living in Dallas, TX now for five years, continuing to build my brand throughout the nation, one person at a time. I am re-launching my website www.jlucasnutrition.com to include meal plans, a daily blog and workout videos to inspire and provide a platform for people to follow for their health and fitness.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road to pursuing my passion has certainly not been an easy one. I personally believe in the philosophy of “no pain no gain” and that hard work and dedication pays off. You must struggle, learn and fight through the pain to become successful.

In fact, I continue to face challenges every day that I fight to overcome in order to help my business and passion flourish. You can easily lose your momentum, if you don’t stay focused on the goal and go after your passion on a daily basis.

At times, your plan may not go as intended. For instance, even when studying to become a Registered Dietitian, I failed the test the first time. I was at risk of losing my job. This is when, I had to kick into another gear, figure out what adjustments needed to be made to reach my goal.

At other times, I also believe you have to be realistic. Sometimes, a particular goal you set for yourself may no longer be obtainable. You have to consider what the risk/benefit is. Does it entail sacrificing time from your family, friends, health, sleep and, at the time, finances? You have to know when to quit, re-adjust and focus your time and energy into the right pursuit that will make the most sense for you.

We’d love to hear more about your business.

You can choose a meal plan that best fits your needs, such as Mediterranean, Vegan, Vegetarian, Ketogenic, Muscle building or weight loss.

I also offer one-on-one counseling, so we can create a tailored approach to meet your specific goals and needs. I offer in-depth blood nutrient analysis by Inside Tracker (use code JamesLucas10 to save 10%), where you will receive a comprehensive explanation of specific vitamins, minerals and foods you should eat to correct deficiencies and optimize blood nutrient levels for better health and performance.

So, in a nutshell, I offer meal plans for anyone looking for quick structure on any one particular diet and one-on-one counseling for those who need a more customized plan to achieve their desired results.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I wouldn’t say that I have had good or bad luck. I have had faith, persistence and pure grit to grind every day. You have to tell the universe what you want, write it down and relentlessly pursue your passion every day. It’s about the network you build and the people you keep around you that will bring you good or bad energy or luck.
