Conversations with the Inspiring Kisha Thompson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kisha Thompson.

Kisha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started UglyHousesRUS because I needed to find my niche in the real estate industry. I’ve held a real estate license for 15 years, yet I couldn’t find an area of the business that fueled my passion. After hearing about “wholesaling real estate”. I decided to do some research. I soon found an area of real estate that I could not only make an income but serve my community in a very impactful and profound way.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wish I could say that it has, but there have been many challenges along the way. I help families who are in jeopardy of losing their homes due to many unforeseen situations. One of the biggest challenges is locating people who need help because oftentimes they are afraid or embarrassed to seek help. The next challenge has been to gain the trust of the families once they have been located. My area of expertise is very unique, but the one piece of advice I can share with other women is to never compromise their ethics and morals. When your business is servicing the community the biggest thing you have is your reputation, and you always want to maintain a great reputation so the people you service will feel comfortable with entrusting in you.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into UglyHousesRUS story. Tell us more about the business.
I help families who are in jeopardy of losing their homes. The biggest part of my business is working with families who are behind on their mortgage, delinquent property taxes, properties with costly repairs and they can’t afford to maintain the property and have other situations that forces them to sell their home because it has become difficult to maintain. I am most proud of helping families find solutions to their problems which allows them to gracefully dispose of their homes without facing foreclosure.

Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
Yes, my advice would be to utilize the internet as a resource. Start by researching people in your geographical area who have had success in your area of business. Contact those people and ask for a meeting, treat them to lunch, and ask if you can intern or shadow them. I also enjoy watching YouTube videos of people in my industry, visual aides are a great way to learn. People don’t mind sharing the knowledge. Success breeds Success.
