Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Ellen Turner.
Dr. Ellen, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I began my medical career thirteen years ago, as a dermatologist but have evolved into both a functional medicine doctor and a dermatologist as I am now board certified in both areas. I use my experience in both areas to treat my patients, but I especially utilize the practice of functional medicine with my patients who have exhausted multiple other dermatologist or dermatologic treatments.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think life is every a smooth road for anyone! If someone tells you that, I think they must be kidding you. There will always be struggles along the way, but it is in how we deal with them that determines the person we become. I look at challenges as opportunities for growth.
As I look back at every single obstacle, and there were many, I did not enjoy the moments when I was experiencing that time in my life, but I made it through to the other side each and every time because of my faith and my determination and the people who surrounded me at that moment in time. Each and every one of those obstacles turned out to be a huge opportunity of growth and ended up being something really wonderful which I could never have predicted for myself.
We’d love to hear more about your practice.
I have a Dermatology practice with two office locations in Dallas and Irving. I offer medical, cosmetic, surgical and non-surgical options for patients with any type of dermatological condition. I am most proud of the fact that I am a double- board-certified solo dermatologist with an amazing staff.
In this day and age of so many dermatology and other medical practices being bought up by private equity firms, I continue to operate as an independent practitioner and have zero plans to ever change that. I love my independence and serve on a board of physicians who are devoted to help physicians remain, independent practitioners in the state of Texas and beyond.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Perseverance, Compassion, Leadership, the ability to listen.
