Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Redmond.
Nick, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Since graduating from Stephen F. Austin in 2013, I have been in the fitness industry as a general manager, personal trainer, weightlifting, strength and conditioning, sports and general nutrition coach and speaker, among others. It has been seven years of seeking expertise and mentorship in different forms to become the best fitness advisor and leader possible.
Going from my undergraduate with plenty of college debt to opening my first business in a thriving area of one of the largest growing cities (still with plenty of college debt..) came down to one thing. Effort is what has always created opportunities. My work ethic is the origin and skill that helped me develop into a business owner, professional bodybuilder, competitive athlete, and an expert in my field.
I used my first three years out of college to explore the industry entirely. I coached youth athletes, retirees, former collegiate athletes. I helped a multitude of clients lose hundreds of pounds (often individually), get off medications, combat heart disease, win bikini competitions, run full and half marathons, PR deadlifts, run faster, jump higher, learn new skills, to name a few. The one thing that remained consistent among the different gyms, demographics, and styles of training was that I had a great ability to connect. I built trust in what I could offer by always leading by example, and outworking everyone in the room.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. I don’t imagine many startups are, and I believe the tests create a much more compelling story. The two biggest takeaways since starting my career have been embracing change, big change, and asking for help when necessary.
In hindsight, every transition to a new gym, new town, has been a progressive move that has led me to create Fort Worth Strong. The skills learned to build and rebuild a successful training program and gain notoriety for my professionalism and ability to help people make positive change, was only achieved through seeking best practices. The industry continues to evolve and so has my setting.
Since taking my first training job out of college and deciding I wanted to create something of my own, I had a belief that it had to be done ON my own. I was mistaken. That’s why the motto at Fort Worth Strong is “Stronger Together.” There is a saying, “If you want to go fast, go alone if you want to go far go together.” It’s as true for starting and operating a business as it is making advances in health and fitness.
Please tell us about Fort Worth Strong.
We help people define “Strong” in their own terms. Each client journey begins with a conversation. We use that information to provide a program that includes one or all three of our core services; group training, individual coaching, or lifestyle/nutritional mentorship. Everything we do is instructor based, meaning every workout that takes place at our gym is led by a professional because again, we believe we are “Stronger Together”.
In our unique second-story space, our program, instruction, and primarily the culture that is being developed is where our strength lies. I am most proud of the bonds and relationships that are being formed. Our results gained are a by-product of committing to the community.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memories from my childhood would have been the neighborhood pick up games. Rain, snow, summer, fall; we were playing something. It was simply the routine of our meetups at basketball courts or big open fields playing rec games and a lot of the time just making up random games. It was a big influence and part of me and my brother’s upbringing. We fought, got in trouble, laughed, got hurt, but also learned so much that is being lost today.
