Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Salinas and Maggie Abbott.
Steven and Maggie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Hello! We are Steven and Maggie of Heartspace Film. Our story begins with the desire to want to create art as a form of translation of what we perceive in the world. A desire ignites passion and a drive to follow your heart’s purpose in life, which is the origin of ‘Heartspace Film,’ to create content from your heart.
Steven has been creating films for over ten years, with a background in music. His story with film began with a desire to generate comedy skits with his friends and continued to blossom into creating films. Friends and clients soon began to reach out to have him shoot music videos, promo videos, and everything else in between.
Maggie has shot photography for over eight years. She’s always been drawn to photographs and the timelessness within them. Another main influence in her photography is being able to share different perspectives with others. She has mainly shot in digital and, more. Recently began shooting roll film.
When we met in 2015, we combined our creative abilities and thus, ‘Heartspace Film’ was created. We have shot for clients in Colorado, Kansas, Mississippi, and are currently based out of Texas. We create all different kinds of content for our clients, such as training videos, music videos, promo videos, portraits, and even food photography. We value the connection with people and love the knowledge learned from others as we see many different walks of life. We use the skills mastered through creating content for others to work on our own personal projects. We are currently working on a 10 episode film series, and also a documentary on the human biofield.
Has it been a smooth road?
Most everyone comes from humble beginnings. Everyone has challenges they are faced with on a daily basis. Obstacles are your shadow work to move through. It all depends on how you choose to perceive your struggles. Growth comes from the experience of processing your emotions and working through the challenges that are presented to you. There is always an event that will test you, a battery breaks, and the footage was deleted, a light went out, etc.. More often than not, it is in the moment of challenges that takes you out of your comfort zone, causes you to be more creative, and the outcome is a product that is better than it would have been originally. Growth comes from discomfort. Learning to be comfortable in the uncomfortable is a huge lesson we have had to learn.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
We love the diversity of Dallas. Even with a large, diverse group of people, everyone is very loving towards one another. Southern hospitality rings true here. We have created long lasting friendships while living here. Friends that have become family and a connection that will live on forever. One thing we don’t enjoy is the Texas heat and the traffic, but all the good coffee and wonderful restaurants makeup for it.
