Meet Kathleen Alexander

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathleen Alexander.

Kathleen, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I had just moved to Richardson with my husband a month after graduating from The University of Texas at Arlington with a BA in Public Relations and was looking for a job. I found the posting for a “Marketing Assistant with Farmers Insurance, the Todd Campbell Agency” on Indeed.com and after applying, interviewing, and accepting the job, I quickly moved into the position. The funny thing to me is, when I first started, I didn’t know a thing about insurance or business development having experience in other forms of marketing. On my first day, my boss, Todd, changed my title to Marketing Coordinator. The first 6 months were pretty brutal as I was learning as much as I could about insurance, the business world, myself, and how to be as successful as possible in my role. I’m happy to say that after getting past the learning curve, I feel like I started to excel and enjoy what I was doing. I’m now going into my fourth year with the agency as the Marketing and Business Development Director with my main focus on being a referral relationship connector and advancing my agency’s presence in the real estate world.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been easy. As I am sure many people can relate to, I had the feeling of being totally out of my element in the first few months. I remember my third day on the job. I helped sponsor an open house with a few other sponsors. I remember the other business development girls were so put together and confident in what they had to say; I ended up going home and crying because I felt so misplaced and my feet hurt so bad from wearing heels all day. I’m glad I had that day, though, because I also remember how proud I am of myself for pushing through it. Fast forward to now and you can see that I am confident with my place in this industry and the backing of the company I represent.

Please tell us about the business.
I am the Marketing and Business Development Director for Farmers Insurance, the Todd Campbell Agency. In a short sentence, I build relationships with real estate professionals in order to bring business into our agency and to help my referral partners grow their businesses. As far as our agency, we are a full-service agency, meaning we offer auto, home, business, boat/RV, and life insurance. Our agency is special because we customize policies for each individual’s needs knowing that we don’t all own the same things, so we don’t all need the same insurance. Our prerogative is to find the perfect balance between coverage and price as well as educate everyone on exactly what they are purchasing. I am so proud of my agency because as I go out and tell people about what we do and what products we sell, I tell them about the amazing team and services I have alongside me and I love that I can confidently say that.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I’ve always loved the mountains, so naturally, one of my favorite memories from my childhood is when I went to Durango Colorado with my church youth group. I remember hiking, repelling, and white water rafting in the most beautiful place I could have imagined.
