Meet Tyler Shin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Shin.

Tyler, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Cuisine. It is our lifeline. It is our culture. My earliest memories entail my mother, creating mouthwatering Korean dishes. I remember her returning home—depleted from 15-hour days at her small food business—to cook up sweet marinated beef and delicious kimchi for my sister and me.

Years later, I became co-owner of my own well-known Dallas restaurant. Our business expanded—but I quickly realized how lucky we were as restaurant owners. Other food businesses faced insurmountable obstacles starting their food businesses. Complex regulatory requirements. Burdensome capital needs. Exhausting administrative hassles. Each prevented otherwise great food businesses from succeeding.

So I set out to create Revolving Kitchen—a modern 25-unit commissary kitchen and food business incubator established in the heart of Dallas.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to Revolving Kitchen was an arduous one. Years of planning—from our eco-friendly flooring to modern kitchen layouts—were required to create our business. Today we are so proud of what we have to offer our members thanks to those thousands of hours of groundwork.

Revolving Kitchen – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
One of Revolving Kitchen’s first members attempted to build their own commercial kitchen—only to experience construction hurdles that prevented their kitchen from being completed. Within days we were able to transition their small business to our facilities and get them back to creating great food products. Moments like those make us incredibly proud to do what we do. We cherish the DFW food scene and are dedicated to helping food businesses succeed.
