Meet Guy Earle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Guy Earle.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My name is “Guy.” My grandmother wanted to name me after Guy Lombardo who was a Canadian American Bandleader and violinist of Italian descent, as my grandfather was. The name Guy has a French origin meaning “to guide.” As a licensed professional counselor supervisor, licensed chemical dependency counselor, and holding a degree in Marriage and Family Counseling, life has afforded me the opportunity to be a guide to others. However, before I could be a guide to others I have had to navigate through my own emotional terrain.

The thing that called me and resonated with me in psychology and counseling was the thirst and longing of my soul to come to grips with my own personal flaws which stemmed from my family of origin and traumatic events. This salvation and freeing of the soul continues to be a priority for me as I continue to evolve my own self. As I continue to seek to evolve my own self and to be a guide in helping others liberate the brilliance that is often trapped within.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I was raised by an overbearing military father who was leading from the example of his father who was an overbearing alcoholic due to his post-traumatic stress disorder which came about after serving in the war. My first emotional terrain was due to my struggles in school, where I did not feel I was smart enough and was constantly getting in trouble. It was not that I had an intellect issue but a learning difference as I would find out years later. My second emotional terrain was that I was a shy, gentle soul that was placed in a neighborhood where I did not feel welcomed. It was filled with rejection, name-calling, and violent attacks.

My father was a track star prior to going to war (marine) and a Washington D.C. police officer who had no tolerance for a shy and gentle child living among wolves in a challenging neighborhood. His stern mentality would come to be crucial to my survival. He pushed me to be courageous and forced me to face my giants. As we spent hours on self-defense, then he enlisted me in martial arts. I transformed from being timid to being tenacious. Although I transformed my timidity to being one of tenacity, my transformation is stemmed from the spiritual realm. It has been the catalyst that has catapulted me.
