Today we’d like to introduce you to Aney Leos.
Aney, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
For as long as I can remember, I have always held a tool in my hand: a pencil, a paintbrush, a microphone, an airbrush. Being a person with artistic qualities was my outlet. I would paint to get away for a bit. I always tried to hustle because one of my biggest dreams was to have my art be what pays the bills, yet it never seemed to click. It wasn’t until I started to create for me, and no one else that my work began to make an impact in my community. Serial Creations began with my coffee obsession. I had a venti cup at hand, and it seemed empty; anything with blank space is never safe from me. It was Halloween season, and I had been in the haunt industry for over eight years at the time, so it felt right to bloody the cup up. Blood is, after all, what we all have in common as living beings. I added texture and blood splatter to my iced coffee cup and that’s what took off. My cups are now known as “Gorecups” and they are a bloody mess. I also do blood splatter on clothing and canvas, although my main focus is my cups. Looking back to this past Halloween I never would’ve guessed that that venti iced coffee cup would have marked the start of something so much more significant. You can now find my containers at the local stores, “Horror Freak” and “Fort Witch”. I have to shout out to the owners Eric and Di for giving me that opportunity.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Far from easy. I have been working customer service jobs since I was old enough to work and have not stopped. I had my first baby at the age of 17 and my second at 19. Every day of my life was work, work, work. I was always tired and sometimes would go months without touching a paintbrush. Finding the drive to create when life gets to be so hectic is hard. It becomes more about working for that fast dollar and we tend to lose ourselves. I finally put that on pause and I am putting 100% of myself into myself. It’s still working, work, work, but for the direct benefit of my family, I wish I had done it sooner. I know hardship is not over, but I will face each day with patience and persistence.
Serial Creations – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Serial Creations is a brand specializing in horror, gore, and blood splatter. I will throw blood splatter on EVERYTHING: shoes, denim, canvas, jewelry, and cups. I list specific things but really anything that will hold paint, I will gore up. I always found blood to be a beautiful thing. Blood is life. Blood is what we all have in common with not only other human beings, but other living beings like animals. It goes beyond just the horror for me. Energy runs this earth and i believe blood to hold one of the strongest energies on the planet. It’s hard for me to pick just one thing I’m most proud of, but I love the fact that I can offer items for those who wish to step out of the norm. Halloween and macabre designs year round is not common, and I have something for those who crave it even when others don’t.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Serial Creations is still a baby. We still have so much more to experience as a brand. So far, my proudest moment consists of several small moments of that realization that this is what I created, and people see the value when a friend supports without hesitation. When a total stranger finds joy in what you created, knowing my work can be found in places like Australia! It all seems too good to be true, and yet it is 100% real.
