Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Lambert, Sarah Lambert.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Katie, Sarah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Sure! When I (Katie) was graduating from college in 2012, I called my sister Sarah with the not uncommon complaint of “well, now I’ve got this degree, and now I have no plan of what to do with it? What should I do?!” — Luckily, Sarah had a plan. She said, “Let’s open a store. You have a business degree now, and I have the design degree, and I think it’s right.” — She was spot on! We opened Lambert Home a few years later, in 2015 with a heart for selling only ethically-manufactured goods. No slave labor or child labor is used in any of our products, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Since 2015, we’ve expanded the design and retail business and now offer home remodeling and construction.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Lord no. The beginning was smooth sailing. We secured a loan and a lease after working for about a year on the perfect business plan. (182 pages, friend!) Our first year in business was a smashing success, with the second year absolutely blowing the first out of the water! Our revenues absolutely sky-rocketed in a completely unrealistic way, and then our third year hit. We were having issues in every facet of business, not to mention I was getting married that year. Everything was chaotic, and it felt we were on the brink of collapse, but the Lord is good, and we came out the other side! Everything’s back to where it was and growing again! The trickiest part of our job is trusting our gut, and it would also be our biggest piece of advice to other entrepreneurs. Trust your gut.
Please tell us about your business.
We offer interior design and construction services out of our retail store in Southlake, TX. We’re known for creating authentic spaces for clients. Our philosophy is to create a home that reflects your heart! The saddest thing is when we hear “yeah, this room is really pretty, but it just doesn’t look like me.” That’s absolutely missing the goal!
We’re most proud of bringing authentic design to an area that sometimes can rely on what everyone else is doing. And of course, incredibly proud that we only offer items that have been manufactured ethically, with no slave labor and no child labor. Some don’t know, but there are an estimated 42 million people enslaved on the planet at this point in time. That’s more than ANY other time in history COMBINED. Through forced labor, child labor, indentured servitude, and sex trafficking, this is a huge issue, and we refuse to be apart of it!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
We think authenticity is paramount. We are committed to being transparent and genuine with our clients both as people and in business.
