Today we’d like to introduce you to Tashia Brown.
Tashia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My story started when I was a young girl. I would always be in the kitchen with my mom when she would prepare holiday desserts for my family. Eventually, I was in charge of the desserts for the holidays. About a year and a half ago, a friend of mine tried my banana pudding and talked me into selling it. That was the push that I needed. I took off from there. I invested in myself, and Treats by TeTe is a hit! My cheesecakes and banana pudding will be the best you’ll ever have. I put passion in every dessert that I create. The best part of it all is that it is always homemade.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to success has definitely not been smooth. But I am thankful for every bump in the road. It makes me appreciate the good. In the beginning, I had to take a chance by putting my last (money) into getting supplies & ingredients and not knowing if I would make a profit. Another thing that I deal with is taking losses financially. Before I required orders to be paid in full before making, I would take orders, and customers would not get the order or pay for it. I’ve learned to make sure that orders are paid for before starting. I also deal with being the only employee. I make every order by myself. Including HUGE corporate orders. That can be extremely exhausting being that I still work a full time job also.
Please tell us about your business.
Treats by TeTe is a dessert business. I create desserts that look and taste good. I am mostly known for my cheesecakes in a jar. I can create treats for the dessert table at events such as baby showers, weddings, etc. I also make desserts perfect for holidays such as peach cobbler and banana pudding. I am most proud of the growth of my business. I literally started with nothing, and I have come so far. My business stands out from others because I put love into every dessert, and you can taste the difference. I love what I do.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I believe that great customer service is one of the most important characteristics of my success. And of course the quality and taste of my products. When you respect customers and treat them how you would like to be handled if you were a customer, it brings customers back. And who doesn’t love a great tasting dessert?. The cheesecake jars are addicting. 😊
