Today we’d like to introduce you to April Lewis.
April, before we jump into specific questions about the company, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I can remember it like it was yesterday. It was January of 2018, and my daughter at the time was ten months old. I had just received a job offer to work for an amazing company, and I had to prepare to put her in daycare. My husband was also looking for work and had found a great opportunity to work for a local financial services company. He was more than qualified for the position and passed all three rounds of interviews with flying colors! The recruiter mentioned to him that all they would need to do is run a background and credit check, and then he would be good to go. We were very excited because in our minds he already had the job.
A few days later, the financial services company reached out to him and said that they found over $5,000.00 worth of old debt on his credit report and wanted him to pay off these items first, before considering him for the job opportunity. This devastating news hit us like a ton of bricks! There was no way we could afford to drop that kind of money so that he could get the job. Unfortunately, we had to pass on the opportunity. We both felt defeated and couldn’t believe that bad credit and debt stopped him from potentially bringing home an extra $60k a year! That moment was a huge wake up call for both of us, and we began to focus more on addressing our credit issues. Today, not only do we help families and individuals restore their credit score, but we also teach them financial literacy, which is very important.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Oh no, it has definitely not been a smooth road. We have to understand that anything in life worth having requires hard work and sacrifice! We started reducing a lot of our expenses so we could afford to pay down our credit card debt and start restoring our credit. This involved going from two vehicles down to one, making my own lunch for work instead of going out, doing my own nails and hair, staying in on the weekend, no cable TV, only internet, etc. It was tough to stay disciplined during this time because I also was in graduate school full time and had a growing daughter that always wanted my attention. I missed the conveniences of being able to pay someone to do my hair and nails. But it was important for us to stay focused on the end goal while going through the process of paying down our debts. We also did our research and found an amazing company to help us restore our credit and get it back on track. We were so pleased with the results that we decided to reach back and help others who also had credit challenges. It has been an amazing journey ever since!
Please tell us about the company.
I manage a Credit Consulting Company where I serve as a Finance Coach. My husband, I work closely together with individuals and families, helping them to establish excellent credit, and we also teach financial literacy! Together we have over ten years of experience in the financial services industry and we are passionate about educating our community and providing financial guidance. We offer credit restoration, credit monitoring, identity theft protection, and various financial tools for our clients to utilize at their own convenience. For the clients that are renters, we also have an amazing program in place that allows them to add their positive rental history to their credit report as a positive trade line to help boost their credit score!
We are most proud of the fact that we are positioning individuals and families to WIN financially, so they CAN own that dream home, purchase that dream car, or get approved for that business loan. What sets us apart from others is the fact that we are not just here to help you clean up your credit, but we are here to educate you and to offer very valuable credit tips to assist you, so you won’t have to go through this process again.
