Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Blocker.
Joshua, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am 27 years old Dallas Native. I Was Raised in Oak Cliff, a graduate of Justin F. Kimball High School. After High School, I went off to Blinn College got an Associates in Fine Arts, then completed my college career in San Marcos, TX at Texas State University where I Received a BFA in Performance & Production. I’ve been acting since I was 9 and am Now Represented by GRIT Talent agency. I Have shared the Stage with some of the greats, Done some of the greatest shows, in my opinion. I LOVE ACTING, and I was blessed in 2018 to receive the IRMA P HALL BLACK THEATER Award for Best Supporting Actor. Now my Entrepreneurial journey is a very interesting one.
On Wednesday night, March of 2018, I was sitting in Bible Study at my church LOVNation Church & I had this crazy vision. In this vision, I saw a store, but not just your regular store. This store housed innovations, ideas, creativity, etc. I had a huge shopping cart & it was like God was dismantling my biggest fear (RUNNING OUT). He was showing me that I would never run out. All I had to do was put what I needed in the basket. The vision seemed bigger than myself and immediately, I ran from it. The beginning of 2019, I could no longer ignore the push, so I set out to found DaWay Entertainment. Now accepting the challenge of reaching my destiny, I set out to do entertainment HIS way.
For me, entertainment was never about “fame” it has always been a ministry. Often saying,”If what you do is not meaningful to the soul of a person, You’re just wasting time”. I’ve been committed to telling real stories by all people with an agenda deeper than money and euphoria. The agenda to push here is helping, healing, and changing lives one story at a time. Why “Kingdom Creativity”? It is my understanding that creativity can’t just be reduced to one way, be it my way or yours. One can only create from what inspires them but there was no room for you or anybody to be “different”, UNTIL NOW.
Kingdom just simply means all People, regardless of race, gender, orientation, status, we all deserve to be heard, we all deserve the chance to express ourselves truthfully and freely because there is someone else out there, like us, that needs to feel seen. DaWay Entertainment is not just about Joshua, it’s about creating room for you too!! It is another way for me to pour into the lives of people.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
HELL NO!!! The road has been extremely hard. I’m the first one in my family to have a legit business. I had no training, no formal blueprint to follow after. I still have a lot of questions and read a lot of books. I’ve never been the “salesman,” so starting out, being my own marketing team has been rough. Another challenge is partnering with the right people. People are vultures out here, they either have bad hearts or they’re money hungry with no integrity. I’m working now to sell and promote as much because there is so much for me to do but I still have limited resources and support.
Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
DaWay Entertainment isn’t just limited to one form of art. We are here to make room for ALL creativity. DaWay Entertainment houses four (4) stand-alone entities, Kingdom Hollywood Productions/the Kingdom Hollywood Foundation/JuJo Publishing Co. & The Creative’s Gym. Kingdom Hollywood Productions serves as a Production Company for film, television, & media produced by Joshua Blocker. It is the Hollywood standard without the Hollywood Bias.
The Kingdom Hollywood Foundation would serve as a non-profit that would only produce and put on theatrical productions but also serves as a training ground to cultivate the gifting in those performers who have the heart for the creative arts but not necessarily the resources. JuJo Publishing Co. serves the publication of literary pieces of entertainment, i.e books, novels, screenplays, shorts, plays, etc. (Joshua has three published books so far)
The Creative’s Gym is simply a network of talented artists that will serve as personal trainers to those individuals that would like one on one training in their area of creativity. You have a gym and & trainer to help you reach fitness goals, why not have the same for performance goals. Network includes acting coaching, voice lessons, graphic design, story development, writing, etc.
I am most proud of the fact that I am able to make room and inspire others. People watch me build from the ground up and I regularly get messages about how proud they are of me. What sets me apart from others is the fact that I’m Secure. So secure that I’m not just building a name for me but It’s my heart to train the next to be better than me. I didn’t just build a table, I built a door and I’m keeping it open, teaching others how to build open doors for those coming behind them.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My Heart. I am a man of a Million Mistakes but my heart is pure! I LOVE Hard! It’s that Love that drives me, and won’t let me give up on myself or others. It’s also my why. I always say, “when you don’t have a solid why you’ll find yourself doing any and everything.” I’m clear of my why and that’s why I’m effective.
