Meet Trailblazer Lexi Jesme

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lexi Jesme.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lexi. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
All of my life, I have been in love and obsessed with babies. I always played house as a little girl growing up, I started babysitting as early as I could, volunteered to do church nursery with my mom, continued church nursery for eight more years, and I still babysit any chance I get! Babies are chunky, fun, adorable, innocent, and oh so cuddly and lovable! I’ve always had a passion for babies and it’s never fizzled out.

In addition to my love of babies, I’ve always had a passion for fashion and home decor; Aesthetics, colors, patterns, cohesive stories, and being able to put together a beautiful assortment. Through a lot of learning and growing as a person during my corporate career I developed a better understanding of my own personal style. My personal style is preppy yet classic, mixed with bold patterns, and of course bright colors! I always saw so many people wearing black at work because it was easy, but the moment someone wore a hot pink sweater everyone was smiling and instantly happy just looking at it, it just made people smile. I wanted to be that fun person, so that’s what I did!

From understanding and developing my own personal style, I noticed a huge white space in the baby clothing industry, there weren’t any bold, bright baby one-pieces that existed. So much of it was and is washed out solids or small pastel figures on a white background. I realized what an opportunity it would be to mesh my two worlds of beautiful aesthetics with babies! I couldn’t believe this was such a hole in the industry. From there, Bubsie was created! Bubsie is all about bright colors that bring joy to everyone around and bold patterns that stimulate a baby’s sweet, developing mind. These bright hand-painted watercolors creating these bold patterns are only printed on organic cotton to further protect a baby’s soft yet incredibly absorbent skin. In order to enhance the Bubsie one-piece even further, I added an adorable shawl collar to the boy’s one-pieces for an elevated look, while adding a scalloped collar to the girl’s one-pieces for a fun and preppy girly look.

While filling the white space of baby one-pieces with bold patterns and bright, hand-painted watercolor patterns seemed like doing my good deed for the world, I didn’t want to stop there. For every one-piece sold a one-piece is donated. I firmly believe every baby should have clean clothes, fresh water, a safe home, and food for every meal every day. While I’m donating and trying to make an impact one one-piece at a time, I hope to grow Bubsie to an incredibly large company so it can be incredibly impactful. I want Bubsie to give every baby a fighting chance at having a successful life. Bubsie combines all my loves, passions, and love to be philanthropic to the little people of the world who cannot help themselves. Let’s save the babies!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road but I don’t believe they’re such a thing as a smooth road. You’re always going to run into bumps and challenges, big or small, you learn from them all.

Struggles I ran into were finding a manufacturer (I had never done that before), creating a logo, and understanding the whole social media game to name a few.

Advice for other women would be: It’s a huge learning curve! Whether you’re doing it on your own or with a friend or two, there’s always so much to learn, bumps in the road, and so many decisions that will go well or be a lesson for next time. The best advice I got was just create something and get it out in the real world. You can learn as you go and if people take to the product you created, keep going!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Bubsie – what should we know?
What makes a Bubsie special is:

The bright colors that make people happy.
The bold patterns that stimulate baby’s minds.
The adorable scalloped collar for girl one-pieces and our shawl collar for boy one-pieces.
Our hand-painted watercolor patterns on plush organic cotton.
Our cute little elephant logo in which I love!
Lastly – that our one-pieces give back through every purchase!

What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Just do it! Learn as you go, reach out for help, ask questions, reach out to other people who are experts in their field to learn from, Google can be very helpful, and just start! If you work to try to create the perfect product, perfect, website, and perfect social media you’ll never get going!
